SUSPECT IN POPLAR BLUFF MURDER ENTERS NOT GUILTY PLEA
A suspect in a Poplar Bluff shooting has pled not guilty to first degree murder.
An initial arraignment hearing was held Friday for 31 year old Ricky Davis Jr. on charges of murder 1st degree, two counts of assault 1st degree, and three counts of armed criminal action.
Davis was arrested last week in connection to the shooting death of 36 year old Janice Thomas at a Poplar Bluff residence.
Two others were shot and injured during the incident on Thursday.
According to Missouri Case Net, Davis waived arraignment on Friday and entered a plea of not guilty to all counts. He was ordered to be held without bond.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 1 pm on Monday, March 19th in Butler County.
TWO ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES IN BUTLER COUNTY
Two people were each taken into custody Sunday evening in Butler County on a meth charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 42 year old Nathan Calhoun, of Poplar Bluff, and 22 year old Brianna Calhoun, of Kennett, were each arrested at around 5:45 pm Sunday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Nathan Calhoun is also facing charges of possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility for methamphetamine and unlawful possession of an illegal weapon.
Following their arrests, both were held at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
DRIVER EXAMINATION STATIONS TO BE CLOSED TODAY IN MISSOURI
Driver examination stations across the state of Missouri will be closed today.
Captain John Hotz, with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that driver examination stations will be closed today in observance of Lincoln Day. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday.
Hotz says that the stations will also be closed next Monday for George Washington’s Birthday.
MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON METH AND MARIJUANA CHARGES IN WAYNE COUNTY
Authorities in Wayne County arrested a Piedmont man Saturday night on meth and marijuana charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 20 year old Kyle Killian was taken into custody at approximately 11 pm Saturday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine.
Killian was also arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES
A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple drug related charges in connection to his arrest over the weekend.
According to the Highway Patrol, 26 year old Tanner Turner, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested shortly after 10 pm Saturday night on felony charges of possession of drugs – methamphetamine, possession of synthetic narcotics, and possession of controlled substance inside a jail facility.
Turner is also facing charges of possession of marijuana under 10 grams, possession of a synthetic cannabinoid under 10 grams, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
BUSINESSES WARNED THAT KENNETT PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE NOT SOLICITING DONATIONS FOR DISTRICT CONFERENCE
Scammers are reportedly trying to hit businesses in the Kennett area.
According to the Kennett Chamber of Commerce, Kennett businesses are reporting that an individual is soliciting donations for a District Conference on behalf of Kennett Public Schools.
Kennett School officials say that the district is not soliciting donations for a conference and the attempt to get donations is a scam.
Anyone who receives one of these solicitations should contact their local law enforcement agency.
CONTRACTS AWARDED FOR ROAD PROJECTS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Contracts have been awarded for multiple road projects in Southeast Missouri.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a contract was awarded for bridge scour repairs on Route 60 in Butler and Stoddard Counties and Route 160 in Ripley County.
Pavement improvements will be performed on Business 60, Route Y, and Route AA in Stoddard County and a contract was also awarded for bridge replacements on Routes N and O in Dunklin County.
Additional information, regarding timelines and impacts to traffic, will be released prior to the start of construction.
The contracts were awarded by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission during their regular meeting last week.
