CHASE CAUSES AREA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO GO ON LOCKDOWN

A Southeast Missouri elementary school was placed under lockdown yesterday due to a chase in the area.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were involved in a pursuit Thursday that ended in Chaffee.

The suspect vehicle was involved in an accident that caused damage to a resident vehicle. One subject fled on foot near Chaffee Elementary School, causing the school to go on a short lock down.

It was determined shortly after that the school and all students were not in any immediate danger and the subject had left the area. The subject was apprehended a short time later.

The driver was later apprehended in Cape Girardeau. The names of the two subjects were not released.

 

TENNESSEE MAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGE

Authorities in Butler County arrested a Tennessee man yesterday on a controlled substance charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33 year old Robert Sears, was taken into custody at around 1 pm on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Sears is also reportedly facing misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

AAG TRIVIA NIGHT SET FOR TONIGHT

The Poplar Bluff High School Academic Assistance Group will be holding their 17th Trivia Night tonight.

The event will begin at 6 pm at the High School commons area. The cost is $150 per team.

The mission of the AAG is to provide supplemental educational opportunities that would not otherwise be available to Poplar Bluff High School Students.

DATES SET FOR POPLAR BLUFF KINDERGARTEN CENTER EARLY ENROLLMENT

The dates have been set for early enrollment at the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center.

Early enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year will be held on February 20th, 21st, and 22nd, from 9 am to noon, 1 pm to 3 pm, and 4 pm to 6 pm each day.

Students must be five years old on or before July 31st, 2018. Parents should bring the students birth certificate, social security card, a proof of residency, and immunizations records. Immunizations must be up to date prior to the first day of school.

CORPS OF ENGINEERS WINTER WATCH SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND

The US Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake has scheduled a winter watch event for this weekend.

The event, presented by the Corps of Engineers and Mingo Wildlife Refuge, will begin at 11 am on February 3rd at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center at Lake Wappapello.

There will be multiple family friendly activities including crafts and a ranger chat about eagle nest building.

Visitors can also look for eagles, migratory waterfowl, and birds at designated viewing stations around Wappapello Lake and the Mingo National Wildlife Refuge during the event.

 

POPLAR BLUFF CHEERLEADING KIDDIE CAMP SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK

A Poplar Bluff Cheerleading Kiddie Camp for future cheerleaders from ages 3 to 6th grade will be held next week.

The camp is scheduled to be held at the Poplar Bluff High School Auxiliary gym from 5 to 6 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. Registration will begin at 5 pm on Monday.

The cost is $25 per child.

All Kiddie Camp Cheerleaders will then perform at the JV Girls Basketball game on Thursday, February 8th.

 

BUTLER COUNTY COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER ANNOUNCES TWO EVENTS FOR APRIL

The Butler County Community Resource Council has announced two events for April.

According to the Council’s Facebook page, the spring job fair hiring event has been scheduled for 10 am to 3 pm on Thursday, April 5th.

The 19th Early Childhood Resource Fair was also announced for Saturday, April 21st.

Both events will be held in the Bess Activity Center at Three Rivers College.
