ESSEX MAN ARRESTED ON SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY WARRANT
An Essex man is in custody after his arrest on a sexual misconduct and child pornography warrant.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 21 year old Damon Austin was recently arrested on a two count warrant for sexual misconduct involving a child under 15 and possession of child pornography.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Austin was having inappropriate contact with a juvenile over text messages.
He was held in the Stoddard County Jail on a $20,000, cash only, bond.
MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 12 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SELLING METH FROM HIS HOME IN FISK
A Southeast Missouri man has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison for selling meth from his home in Butler County.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, in February of 2023, Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force officers received information that Johnny Morrow was selling methamphetamine.
Officers made two purchases of meth totaling 22 grams from Morrow at his home in Fisk. When officers arrived to serve a court-approved search warrant for Morrow’s home, he tried to run away but was caught and detained while still on the premises.
Officers found a pill bottle in a bedroom containing eight bags of meth packaged in a manner consistent with drugs intended for delivery, totaling approximately 31.6 grams, a separate pill bottle containing approximately 64.78 grams of meth and a bag of approximately 52.97 grams of meth concealed in a jacket.
Morrow pleaded guilty in June to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Last week, he was sentenced to 152 months in prison.
FILING TO BEGIN TODAY FOR CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Filing will begin today for the upcoming Poplar Bluff City Council elections.
The city will be holding elections in April for two seats on the City Council, one representative each from Wards One and Three. Both elections will be for three year terms.
Candidates can begin filing for the election today at 8 am. The final day for candidate filing will be December 31st.

Filing will also begin today for multiple positions on the Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of Education. According to school officials, there are two positions available for three year terms that will be voted on during the election on April 8th, 2025.
Candidates can file in person with the Secretary of the Board of Education beginning at 8 am at the School Administration Office.
MULTIPLE EARTHQUAKES SHAKE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI THURSDAY MORNING
Multiple earthquakes shook Southeast Missouri Monday morning
According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 3.0 quake was recorded at around 12:30 am Monday morning.
The earthquake was centered around two and half miles west of Howardville and had a depth of almost five miles.
Officials say that six other earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 1.8 to 2.2 were recorded between midnight and 7:30 am Monday in the southeast Missouri area.
ONE DEAD FOLLOWING FIRE IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
One person has died following a fire in Northeast Arkansas.
According to Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder, at around 7:30 pm Saturday night, a structure fire was reported in the 1700 block of County Road 333.
After the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered a body inside the residence.
Snyder says that the body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and to determine positive identification.
Due to a death occurring from this fire, the Paragould Fire Department’s Fire Marshal has been requested to assist with the investigation.
ROAD WORK TO CAUSE CLOSURE TODAY NEAR COOTER
Route H in Pemiscot County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of roadway is located from County Road 548 to County Road 556 near Cooter.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
