FEDERAL DISASTER DECLARATION APPROVED FOR THE STATE OF MISSOURI

The federal government has approved a federal disaster declaration for numerous Missouri counties that were affected by a storm system that swept over the area earlier this year.

According to Congressman Jason Smith, President Trump has authorized the declaration that was requested by Governor Mike Kehoe to assist in cleaning up after the storms that impacted Missouri on March 14th and 15th, as well as from March 30th through April 8th.

The first storm system resulted in multiple deaths, including one in Poplar Bluff, as well as heavy property damage across Southeast Missouri.

Smith’s office says that the declaration will make federal assistance available to support Missouri’s recovery efforts.

Individuals who sustained damage or losses due to the severe weather may now apply for FEMA disaster assistance online at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling FEMA’s toll-free application line at 1-800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

Governor Mike Kehoe’s office says that the additional request for the April 29th storms is still under review, and the process to request a major disaster declaration for the May 16th storms is still underway.
