HIGHWAY PATROL INVESTIGATING FATAL WRECK INVOLVING PIEDMONT WOMANOfficials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol say an investigation is underway following a fatal wreck involving a Piedmont woman.

The wreck occurred Tuesday morning in Jefferson County on Interstate 55. The full circumstances of the two vehicle wreck are not known, however officials say the vehicle of 50 year old Lisa Merideth, of Piedmont, ended up overturning and ejecting her.

Merideth was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. There were no other injuries listed in connection to the wreck.

 

WAPPAPELLO RETAILER SELLS LOTTERY TICKET WORTH OVER $125,000 A Sikeston resident has won an over $100,000 Missouri Lottery jackpot.

Billie Heaton won a $126,000 Show Me Cash jackpot after purchasing a ticket from VFW 3416 in Wappapello. Heaton correctly matched all five numbers in the December 3rd drawing.

The VFW is also celebrating; since they sold the winning ticket they will receive a $500 bonus check.

 

PAVEMENT REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW IN STODDARD COUNTY Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be in Stoddard County today and tomorrow for pavement repairs.

According to MoDot, Ramp 25 South to westbound U.S. 60 will be reduced to one lane for the repairs. Work is scheduled to take place from 7 am to 5 pm both today and tomorrow.

 

MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO SEVERAL BURGLARIES IN SIKESTON A Sikeston man has been taken into custody in connection to several recent burglaries in the town’s business district.

Captain James McMillen with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that 37 year old Aaron Presley has been charged with 7 counts of burglary and 5 counts of felony stealing. Presley is also facing charges of felony property damage, misdemeanor property damage and misdemeanor stealing.

McMillen says an investigation into the burglaries led police to Presley’s residence where they found and recovered stolen property. Presley is being held on a $15,000 cash only bond.

 

PIPE REPLACEMENT TO CAUSE DELAYS IN WAYNE COUNTY Route 34 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane for a couple of days so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a pipe under the roadway.

Route 34 will be reduced a half a mile West of County Road 335 from 7:30 am to 3 pm both today and tomorrow.

 

SOCCER PLAYER AND CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER CHOSEN AS POPLAR BLUFF ATHLETES OF THE MONTH A soccer player and a cross country runner have been chosen as the Poplar Bluff athletes of the month for November.

Jeffry Hardin and Katie Sliger were chosen for the honor by the Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club.

Hardin scored 19 goals and 14 assists during the 2015 season, adding to his career total of 63 goals and 38 assists. He was also an All-State honorable mention in 2015.

Sliger was the Poplar Bluff Invitational and Jackson Invitational sophomore champion. She made All-Conference, All-District and was also a state qualifier. She is the first female at Poplar Bluff Senior High to break 20 minutes in the MSHSAA Class 4 state meet, which is a 5k.
