POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING CHARGES AFTER CHILDREN FOUND IN HAZARDOUS LIVING CONDITIONSA Poplar Bluff man is facing charges after his children were reportedly found in hazardous living conditions.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Tuesday night Police Officer and an investigator with the Butler County Children’s Division made contact with Michael West and Vanessa May at an area residence.
While investigating the residence, the authorities found a child’s bedroom that was empty with a concrete floor, an empty plastic shelf, and no visible light other than the light from the window. May said they would put down an air mattress for the child to sleep on. The child also had bruised areas on their face.
Another bedroom was occupied by two other children. The bedroom contained stacks of totes all over the room stacked approximately 5 feet high. The three children were placed in possession of a family member.
Later that night, the officer was dispatched back to the residence in reference to a dispute. At the residence, a neighbor told officers that West had threatened them. 41 year old Michael West was placed into custody and is facing charges of 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child, peace disturbance, and tampering with a victim.
PIEDMONT RESIDENT ARRESTED ON FELONY DRUG CHARGE Authorities in Wayne County have arrested a Piedmont resident on a felony drug charge.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell us that 50 year old Lori Seiffert was taken into custody Wednesday evening on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Seiffert is also facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
BARK IN THE PARK TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND A fun event for dog lovers is coming up this weekend in Poplar Bluff.
The Animal Welfare Alliance will be holding its annual “Bark in the Park” event on Sunday, May 15th from 2 to 5 pm at Hendrickson Park. Some events to be held include dog training demonstrations, a pet parade and goofy pet contests.
Admission is $1 per dog. Owners are also asked to make sure there dogs are on leashes.
THREE RIVERS STUDENT PLACES IN THE TOP TEN IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION A Three Rivers College student from Poplar Bluff has placed in the top ten of an international competition.
Madison Miller placed in the top ten of Collegiate DECA’s international competition in Washington, D.C.
Miller had previously placed third in the Banking and Financial Services competition in March at the DECA State Career Development Conference.
Collegiate DECA helps high school and college students prepare for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
Officials say that Miller will graduate from Three Rivers this month with an associate’s degree in Business Management.
PEDESTRIAN SERIOUSLY INJURED DURING COLLISION IN NEW MADRID COUNTY A pedestrian was injured Wednesday morning during a collision in New Madrid County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 59 year old Milisav Bozovic was under a parked freightliner on Interstate 55 when the vehicle was hit from behind by another freightliner.
Bozovic was seriously injured in the collision and was taken to St. Francis Medical Center. No other injuries were reported from the wreck.
BLOOMFIELD RESIDENT FACING CHARGES OF POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE AND ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD A Bloomfield resident is facing multiple charges out of Stoddard County.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 22 year old Alana Jo Hensley is being held on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, endangering the welfare of a child, and driving while suspended.
Hensley’s bond has been set at $7,500.
24TH ANNUAL LETTER CARRIERS STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND Poplar Bluff residents will have an opportunity to help out multiple local charities this weekend.
The 24th Annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has been scheduled for this Saturday. Anyone wishing to participate simply needs to put out a bag of non-perishable food either by or in your mailbox. Your letter carrier will then pick it up for you.
All food donations in Poplar Bluff will stay in the city with donations going to the Rescue Mission, Haven House, St. Vincent De Paul, and other local charities.
FOUR POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS RECIVE STATE AWARD Four Poplar Bluff student athletes have been chosen for the prestigious Missouri Good Sport honor for their exemplary display of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.
Katie Huskey and Steven Haley of Poplar Bluff Senior High School, and Kiley Bess and Trenton Davis of the Junior High were given the awards earlier this month by Athletic Director Kent Keith.
According to Jason West, Missouri State High School Activities Association communications director, the state award is intended to recognize students that have had a positive impact on the student body through their participation in extra-curricular activities.
