TROOPERS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TO PARTICIPATE IN LABOR DAY ENFORCEMENT PROJECT

Highway Patrol troopers in Southeast Missouri will be out in force over the Labor Day holiday weekend in an effort to promote safety and to reduce the number of traffic crashes.

Captain Jeffrey Vitale, commanding officer of Troop E of the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Poplar Bluff, tells us that for today and Labor Day, Troop E officers will be taking part in a peak travel crash reduction enforcement program.

This means that Troop E will assign a trooper every 20 miles on Interstates 55 and 57, along with other selected secondary roads.

Vitale says the objective of the project is to place a trooper in close proximity of motorists who may need assistance and to enforce aggressively all traffic violations which may contribute to unsafe traveling conditions.

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON HYDROCODONE RELATED CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple charges in connection to his arrest early Thursday morning in Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28 year old Nathan Merchant was taken into custody on charges of possession of a controlled substance – hydrocodone, driving while intoxicated, and possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana.

Merchant is also facing multiple traffic violations following the arrest.

 

HAYWOOD CITY MAN FACING WEAPONS CHARGES OUT OF SCOTT COUNTY

A Haywood City man has been taken into custody on weapons charges out of Scott County.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter tells us that 43 year old Freddie Banks Senior has been charged with two counts of felony unlawful possession of a firearm.

Walter says that his office began investigating a domestic violence case Tuesday involving Banks. During the investigation detectives discovered that Banks had three felony convictions, and currently possessed a hand gun, and a rifle inside his residence.

A search warrant was obtained and resulted in the recovery of both firearms along with a shotgun that was allegedly stolen out of New Madrid County.

 

25 MILE YARD SALE BEGINS TODAY ON T HIGHWAY

The beginning of Labor Day weekend also marks the start of the annual 25 mile yard sale at Wappapello Lake.

The yard sale will be held on T Highway today through Monday.

Anyone who will be travelling in the area is reminded to be careful while driving and to be aware of the increased pedestrian traffic.

QULIN LION’S CLUB TO HOST DINNER THIS WEEKEND

The Qulin Lion’s Club has announced that they will be holding a dinner this weekend.

The dinner will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Sunday and will feature fried chicken, potatoes, salad, and more. Desserts and drinks will also be provided.

Adults will be able to enter for $8. The dinner will cost $5 for children 5 to 12 years old and children under 5 get in for free.

 

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK IN BUTLER COUNTY

Route 142 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane next week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge maintenance.

The bridge involved is located between Route 67 and County Road 275.

Weather permitting, work will be performed Tuesday, September 6th and Wednesday, September 7th from 7 am to 4 pm each day.
