MAN FACING CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO THEFT AT POPLAR BLUFF BUSINESS
A Doniphan man is facing charges in connection to a reported theft at a Poplar Bluff business.
Lieutenant Josh Stewart with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells us more about the incident.

On Saturday, September 24th at approximately 9:50 p.m. employees of Hastings book store reported the theft of approximately $1,800 of merchandise. Upon viewing surveillance footage officers were able to identify the suspect as Edward Ormsby, 29, of Doniphan. Additionally two witnesses followed the suspect vehicle from the lot of Hastings. While doing so Ormsby brandished a handgun and begin firing it in the direction of the witnesses. At this point the witnesses discontinued following Ormsby. Area search was subsequently conducted and Mr. Ormsby was not located. He was later arrested by Dent County authorities and transported back to Poplar Bluff.
Ormsby is facing charges including armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
AUTHORITIES FIND INMATE WHO ESCAPED FROM MISSISSIPPI COUNTY
Updating a story we brought to you earlier this week, an inmate who escaped custody this past weekend in Southeast Missouri has been arrested.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office, 49 year old Edward Lusk was arrested Tuesday evening by Stoddard County Deputies after a lengthy foot pursuit. A deputy received minor injuries during the apprehension. Officials say Lusk was found at a residence just east of Dexter.
Lusk had escaped from the Mississippi County Detention Center on Saturday.
RELAY FOR LIFE OF BUTLER COUNTY TO BE HELD ON FRIDAY
An event for Relay for Life of Butler County has been scheduled for Friday.
Relay for Life is a 6 hour fundraising event, which raises money for the American Cancer Society. There will be inspiring speakers, food, entertainment, chance drawings, items for sale, and more.
The event will be held Friday from 6 pm to midnight at Fred M. Morrow stadium in Poplar Bluff.

SHOPLIFTING REPORT LEADS TO DRUG ARREST IN KENNETT
Kennett police arrested an area man Monday on a drug charge while investigating a shoplifting report.
According to the Kennett Police Department, officers were dispatched to an area convenience store on Monday to take a report of a shoplifting.
The suspect, who was identified as William Jones, of Kennett, was found a short time later. While searching the suspect, officers located the stolen property along with a felony amount of narcotics.
Jones was arrested on charges of stealing and felony possession of a controlled substance.
ALMOST ONE MILLION DOLLAR GRANT ANNOUNCED FOR CITY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
A Dunklin County city will receive almost one million dollars in grant money to expand access to quality early childhood education opportunities.
Governor Jay Nixon has announced that the Missouri Department of Economic Development has awarded a $999,924 Community Development Block Grant to the city of Senath.
The grant will go to construct a new 16,100 square foot Head Start and Early Head Start Center. Nixon says the center will create 108 early learning slots for area low-income families.
FOOD DRIVE TO BE HELD AT UPCOMING MARTINA MCBRIDE CONCERT
Martina McBride will be doing more than just performing her hit songs at her upcoming Poplar Bluff concert.
A food drive will also be held during the concert as a part of McBride’s Team Music is Love charity initiative. The charity will be teaming up with the Bread Shed and Southeast Missouri Food Bank for the food drive.
The concert, a stop on McBride’s Love Unleashed Tour, will be held at the Black River Coliseum on October 14th.
INFORMATIONAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR TODAY FOR FUTURE CLASS TRIP FOR POPLAR BLUFF 8TH GRADERS
An informational meeting has been scheduled for today in preparation for a class trip for Poplar Bluff 8th graders.
A class trip to Washington, D.C. for eighth graders is being planned for May 30th to June 3rd, 2017.
An informational meeting for parents interested in registering their students has been scheduled for 6 pm today in the Junior High gymnasium.
