AREA MAN TO BE SENTENCED IN AUGUST FOLLOWING GUILTY PLEA ON MURDER CHARGE

  A sentencing hearing has been set for next month after a Poplar Bluff man entered a guilty plea on a murder charge.

According to Missouri Case Net, William Pickard pleaded guilty last week to felony charges of murder 2nd degree, assault 1st degree, and armed criminal action.

Pickard was arrested in August of 2015 in connection to the death of Joshua Sharar in Bollinger County.

Pickard’s sentencing was scheduled for August 3rd.

 

  SIKESTON TEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

  A Sikeston teenager was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in a single vehicle wreck in New Madrid County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the 16 year old male was travelling on US 61 near New Madrid when his vehicle ran off the side of the road, struck an embankment, and overturned.

The teen suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was taken to an area hospital.

 

  UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF DIESEL DISCHARGED FROM SUNKEN BOAT IN MISSISSIPPI RIVER

  An unknown amount of diesel was discharged over the weekend from a sunken vessel in the Mississippi River.

Officials with the United States Coast Guard tell KWOC News that authorities were notified early Sunday morning of the towing vessel Eric Haney sinking on bank of the Upper Mississippi River near Cairo, Illinois.

There were nine people aboard the towing vessel who evacuated the ship before it sank with no reports of injuries.

An unknown amount of diesel was discharged from the vessel, which officials say has been contained with containment boom and divers have successfully secured the source of the diesel fuel discharge. Water and shoreline assessments have been conducted and crews observed no further signs of pollution.

Officials say the cause of the incident is under investigation.

 

  TWO ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON METH CHARGE

  Two women were arrested Friday night in Butler County on a meth charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Kristy Scott and 27 year old Stephanie Carson, both of Poplar Bluff, were each taken into custody on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Both women are also facing a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following their arrest, the women were transported to the Butler County Jail.

 

  POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON FLEEING CHARGE

  A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody Saturday on a fleeing charge.

According to authorities, 43 year old Bryan Jackson was arrested shortly after 4 pm Saturday afternoon on charges including resisting arrest by fleeing, driving while intoxicated, and driving while revoked.

Following the arrest, Jackson was held at the Butler County Jail.

 

  DEPLOYMENT CEREMONY HELD IN KENNETT FOR 1137TH MILITARY POLICE COMPANY

  Friends, families, supporters and veterans were all in attendance for a deployment ceremony held Sunday in Kennett.

The ceremony at the Kennett High School was for the 1137th Military Police Company, who will be deploying to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base.

 

  RIPLEY COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

  Route C in Ripley County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

According to officials, the section Route C to be closed is located between Route 160 and County Road C-5.

Work is scheduled to be done from 7 am to 4 pm today and the work zone will be open to local traffic only.
