TWO SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS TO BEGIN TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFFPoplar Bluff motorists should be prepared for delays beginning today as two sidewalk improvement projects are scheduled to begin.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, both Business 60 and Business 67 will be reduced to one lane through mid September so contractor crews can perform the improvements.
Business 60 will be reduced between Business 67 and B Street, while Business 67 will be reduced between Pine Street and Route 53.
Work on both projects is scheduled to be performed from 6 am to 7 pm daily through September 18th.
ONE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO KENNETT HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION Authorities in Kennett have arrested a man in connection to the death of a local teenager.
Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News, that at around 11:30 pm Friday night, an officer was flagged down by a citizen who told the officer that there was a deceased person on his couch.
The officer found the victim, who was later identified as 19 year old Akeem Nelson of Kennett.
Officials say that a 19 year old man has been taken into custody on charges of 2nd degree murder, armed criminal action, and tampering with physical evidence. The identity of the man arrested has not been released.
This incident is still under investigation by the Kennett Police Department and the Dunklin County Major Case Squad, however officials say that no other arrests are expected to be made.
JACKSON POLICE SEARCHING FOR MISSING PERSON The Jackson Police Department is seeking the public’s help in finding a missing person.
According to the Jackson PD, 56 year old David Lee Bolen was last seen on June 21st at his residence.
Bolen is driving a white, 2004 Ford Ranger, extended cab, with Missouri License Plates 8PY-566. The vehicle has black spray painted wheels.
Officials say that Bolen is known to frequent the Wappapello Lake, Clearwater, and Piedmont areas.
Anyone with information on Bolen’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department 573-243-3151 or your local law enforcement authorities.

WAYNE AND IRON COUNTIES ADDED TO DISASTER DECLERATION The federal disaster declaration has been expanded to two additional counties in Southeast Missouri.
Missouri Governor Eric Greitens says that FEMA has approved his request to expand assistance to eligible homeowners, renters and businesses in nine counties, including Iron and Wayne County.
Homeowners and renters who sustained damage or losses due to the flooding and severe storms can register for disaster assistance by calling FEMA toll-free at 800-621-3362 or by going online to www.DisasterAssistance.gov.
The FEMA Deadline to apply for assistance is August 1st.
TWO JAMAICA RESIDENTS KILLED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY WRECK Two Jamaica residents were killed in a single vehicle wreck this past weekend in Southeast Missouri.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred Saturday afternoon on Interstate 55 in New Madrid County.
A van, driven by 30 year old Mauricio Lopez, of Arcadia, Florida, had a tire blow out, causing the van to run off the side of the road and overturn.
One of the passengers, 56 year old Vanzola Warren, of Maggotty, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, was pronounced dead and taken to the New Madrid County Morgue. Another passenger, 48 year old Pansy Green-Whyte, also of Maggotty, was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Lopez suffered serious injuries and three other passengers received moderate injuries in the wreck.
PIEDMONT MAN FACING FELONY METH CHARGE A Piedmont man is facing a felony meth charge following his arrest on Friday.
According to the Highway Patrol, 60 year old Joseph Louis was taken into custody in Wayne County on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following the arrest, Louis was held at the Wayne County Jail.
BOAT SINKS IN CLEARWATER LAKE Officials say that no one was injured when a boat caught fire and sank over the weekend in Clearwater Lake.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at around noon on Sunday near Webb Creek Marina.
The runabout boat caught fire after its engine backfired, and then sank while an attempt was made to tow it back to the marina.
ROUTE 53 IN BUTLER COUNTY TO BE REDUCED TODAY Route 53 in Butler County will be reduced today so Missouri Department of Transportation can crews perform a pipe replacement.
The section of Route 53 to be reduced is located between Prenzel Road and County Road 612.
Work is scheduled to be performed from 8 am to 4 pm.
