MULTIPLE COOLING CENTERS AVAILABLE IN BUTLER COUNTY Anyone looking for relief from the heat wave scorching Southeast Missouri can visit any of the multiple cooling centers available in Butler County.

Cooling centers have been established in Poplar Bluff at the Butler County Health Department, Northside Nutrition Center, and Poplar Bluff Public Library.

Cooling Centers are also available at the Fisk Community Library and the Qulin Senior Center.

FEMA DISASTER RECOVERY CENTER OPENING TODAY IN WAYNE COUNTY

A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center is opening today in Wayne County.

The recovery center at the Greenville City Hall will offer in-person support to individuals and businesses in any of the 35 counties included in the Missouri federal disaster declaration.

Recovery specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be at the center to discuss assistance and to help anyone who needs information or assistance filing an application.

The center will be open from 9 am to 7 pm today and tomorrow as well as next Monday and Tuesday. The center will also be open Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm.

The center will close permanently at 7 pm on Tuesday, July 25th.

 

ROUTE O TO BE CLOSED TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

Route O in Butler County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The section Route O to be closed is located from Route 67 to Route W.

Work is scheduled to take place today from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm.

 

METHAMPHETAMINE AND OVER $7,000 IN CASH FOUND DURING TRAFFIC STOP IN CLAY COUNTY

Three people are facing charges following a traffic stop Wednesday in Northeast Arkansas.

Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller tells KWOC News that deputies with the Clay County Sheriff's Department along with officers from the Piggott Police Department conducted the stop on a vehicle driven by Donald Grider.

Officers conducted a probation search of the vehicle and located approximately 3 ounces of suspected methamphetamine and over $7000 in cash.

Miller says that Grider attempted to flee the scene on foot before being apprehended.

Grider, along with two passengers identified as Macey Crowder and Bradley Moore, are facing charges of possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver.

Grider is also facing additional charges of fleeing and resisting arrest.

 

CARTER COUNTY AWARDED GRANT FOR DECONTAMINATING RECORDS DAMAGED DURING FLOOD

Carter County has been awarded a grant to help preserve records damaged during this year’s flooding.

Yesterday, Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft’s Local Records Division announced a grant for Carter County worth up to $100,000 to freeze dry and decontaminate records and documents submerged during the flash flood in the Van Buren courthouse in May.

In May, the Missouri State Archives and the Local Records Division spent approximately 420 hours on-site, assessing and air drying records officials needed to resume business immediately after the flood.

 

FEDERAL ASSISTANCE DEADLINE EXTENDED TO AUGUST 14TH

The deadline for Missouri disaster survivors to register for federal assistance has been extended to Aug. 14th.

FEMA disaster grants are available to homeowners and renters in the 35 designated counties including Butler, Carter, Dunklin, Pemiscot, Ripley, and Wayne.

Homeowners, renters or business owners, must register with FEMA to determine if they are eligible for federal assistance.

Disaster assistance for individuals may include grants to help homeowners and renters with temporary housing, essential home repairs, personal property replacement, and serious disaster-related needs.

FEMA granted the extension at the request of Missouri Governor Eric Greitens, citing a continued flow of new applications for federal assistance in the wake of the severe storms and flooding between April 28th and May 11th.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has also extended its deadline to August 14th to apply for low-interest disaster loans.

 

PIPE REPLACEMENT TO CAUSE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ROUTE CC IN BUTLER COUNTY

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be closing a portion of Route CC in Butler County today to perform a pipe replacement.

MoDOT officials tell KWOC News that Route CC will be closed between County Road 675 and County Road 686 today from 7:30 am to 4 pm.
