MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 25 YEARS ON ROBBERY AND FIREARM CHARGESA man has been sentenced to over 25 years in connection to a 2015 Kennett convenience store robbery.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 36 year old Julius L. Jones was sentenced yesterday to 308 months on one felony count of interference with commerce by robbery and one felony count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
Jones was one of two men involved in a robbery at a Kennett business on July 1st, 2015. A store manager was shot during the robbery. The two men also shot at Kennett Police officers while attempting to get away.
COMMUNITY ALLIANCE PROGRAM TO BE HELD AT HIGHWAY PATROL TROOP E HEADQUARTERS The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be hosting a Community Alliance Program at the Troop E headquarters in Poplar Bluff.
The program will begin on Tuesday, September 19th and will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. The program will conclude with an awards banquet on October 31st.
According to Captain Jeffrey Vitale, the program is designed to allow the public to learn more about the Patrol’s purpose and role within the law enforcement community and the curriculum will familiarize participants with many Patrol policies and procedures.
These sessions will cover traffic stops, crash investigations, firearms familiarization, marine operations, and many other aspects of the Patrol.
Applications for the program are being accepted through September 1st and there is no cost to participate.

ROUTE M IN BUTLER COUNTY TO BE CLOSED STARTING TOMORROW Route M in Butler County will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction beginning tomorrow so contractor crews can perform chip sealing.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway to be closed is located from County Road 461 to County Road 441.
Weather permitting, work will performed tomorrow through Friday, September 8th from 6 am to 7 pm daily.
PARAGOULD MAN KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK A Paragould man was killed in a two vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Arkansas State Police, the wreck occurred at around 12:30 pm Tuesday on Highway 49 when a vehicle crossed the center line of the roadway and struck an oncoming vehicle.
The second vehicle then ran into a building.
The driver of the first vehicle, 70 year old Thomas Hood, has died from injuries he received in the wreck. A passenger in Hood’s vehicle was also injured. No injuries were listed for individuals in the second vehicle.
REGULAR MEETING OF THE POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL BOARD TO BE HELD THURSDAY NIGHT The Poplar Bluff R-1 School Board is scheduled to meet this week.
The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Poplar Bluff Board of Education is set to begin Thursday night at 7 pm.
The meeting will be open to the public and held in the administrative building.
WAPPAPELLO EAGLE RIDERS TO HOLD CHARITY RIDE FOR HEARTS OF RESCUE An area organization will be holding an event next month for charity.
The Wappapello Eagle Riders have scheduled a charity ride for Hearts of Rescue on September 16th.
