MAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES Authorities in Butler County have arrested an area man on multiple drug related charges.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 64 year old Elmer Stucker, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody Wednesday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – hydrocodone.
Stucker is also facing charges including possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.
Following the arrest, Stucker was held at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
RURAL RESIDENTS IN CARTER COUNTY ASKED TO MAKE SURE THEIR MAILBOX IS LABELED
Rural residents in Carter County are being asked to make sure their mailbox is labeled.
According to a post on Facebook shared by Carter County Sheriff Richard Stephens, a 911 addressing project has been started in the county.
Anyone who receives their mail by highway contract route or rural route is being asked to label their mailbox with the route and box number as soon as possible.
The company that is contracted to do the county mapping will be new 911 address with the corresponding route address.
POPLAR BLUFF MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS CONSTRUCTING PONTOON BOAT
Middle School gifted students in Poplar Bluff are constructing a makeshift boat as part of a sea unit in advance of a field trip to Mobile, Alabama, next month to study the prolific Gulf Coast ecosystem.
According to school officials, the sixth grade SINGS class is using 2x4s, plywood and PVC piping to build a pontoon boat after watching a series of YouTube videos.
The students determined a pontoon boat has the greatest center of buoyancy and stability because of its flat bottom and wide surface area following an experiment with various shapes using tinfoil and pennies.
Upon completion, the students hope to test the boat out at Wappapello Lake and make predictions based on their theory. Afterward, they will raffle off their creation.
BERNIE MAN IN CUSTODY ON ASSAULT AND WEAPON WARRANT
A Bernie man is in custody this morning on an assault warrant.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 65 year old Cary Jones was recently arrested on a warrant for assault 3rd degree and unlawful use of a weapon.
Jones’s bond has been set at $25,000 cash only, and officials say he remained in jail as of this morning.
APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR THREE RIVERS LPN PROGRAM
Students wishing to join the new Practical Nursing Program at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff have been given some extra time to submit their application.
The original deadline for applications was October 2nd, but the college says that the deadline has been moved to October 20th.
The Practical Nursing Application form for the January 2018 LPN cohort is available online at trcc.edu/admissions. Applicants must also submit an online application for admission to Three Rivers College.
To be eligible for acceptance into the program, students must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, take the ATI TEAS entrance exam, have a 2.0 GPA or higher, and complete a short questionnaire.

STRIPING PROJECT SET TO BEGIN TODAY IN DONIPHAN
A road striping project is set to begin today in Doniphan.
Officials with the Doniphan Police Department tell KWOC News that striping will begin at 9 am today on Highway Street from the city limit to the Masonic Lodge and on Jefferson Street from Current River Drive to 160.
Police are urging motorists to use caution while driving in those areas.
