OFFICIAL SNOWFALL TOTALS RELEASED FOR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI The National Weather Service has released official snow fall totals for Monday.
The highest amount measured was eight and a half inches of new snowfall in East Prairie.
Other totals included 7 inches for Sikeston, 6 inches for Dexter, 5 inches for Poplar Bluff, and 4 inches for Doniphan and Blytheville.
Some of our more northern communities received a light coating, with Van Buren, Piedmont, and Marble Hill all recording just one inch of snow.
POCAHONTAS MAN SENTENCED TO 36 MONTHS FOR MANSLAUGHTER
A Northeast Arkansas man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
According to authorities, 26 year old James Yancy, of Pocahontas, entered the plea in connection to the 2016 shooting death of Nicholas Dawson.
Yancy received a sentence of three years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections along with a fine.
TWO WORKSHOPS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK TO DISCUSS WAPPAPELLO LAKE
Officials with the US Army Corps of Engineers say that two workshops have been scheduled for this week to discuss Wappapello Lake.
The Corps of Engineers says they are updating the Wappapello Lake Master Plan along with the Shoreline Management Plan and are inviting area residents to participate in the update process.
The workshops have been scheduled for 4 to 7 pm today at the Greenville Elementary School and from 4 to 7 pm tomorrow at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center on Highway T near the Wappapello Dam.
Officials say that the purpose for updating the plans is to bring them into compliance with current policies and regulations, update visitor use trends, and obtain public input to ensure future activities are accomplished in an environmental sustainable manner.
ILLINOIS WOMAN KILLED IN SHANNON COUNTY WRECK
An Illinois woman has died from injuries she received in a wreck in Shannon County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, on Sunday 30 year old Robert Thompson, of Decatur, Illinois, was driving on Highway 60 when his vehicle slid off the roadway and hit a ditch.
The wreck occurred around three miles east of Mountain View.
A passenger in the vehicle, 25 year old Charlee Thompson, also of Decatur, was pronounced dead by Shannon County Coroner Tim Denton. The driver suffered minor injuries.
MOST MAJOR ROADS CLEAR IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Road conditions have improved in Southeast Missouri.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, many major highways in the area have been cleared of snow.
The Travelers Information Map still has a few major roadways in the Sikeston, Charleston, and New Madrid areas that are listed as covered or partly covered.
However there are still many side and back roads that are covered and could be dangerous to drive on. Please exercise caution while driving on these roads.
3.6 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE RECORDED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Monday’s snowfall was followed by an earthquake on Tuesday in Southeast Missouri.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the 3.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded just before 11 am Tuesday morning around two and a half miles southwest of Caruthersville.
The USGS report says that the earthquake had a depth of over five and a half miles.
