HEPATITIS A CASE IDENTIFIED IN POPLAR BLUFF
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services says that a case of Hepatitis A has been identified in a food handler that worked while potentially contagious at an area restaurant.
Officials say that the food handler worked at Huddle House in Poplar Bluff. Anyone who ate at the Poplar Bluff Huddle House between January 3rd and January 17th of this year should consider speaking with their health care provider about steps to take to prevent illness and seek medical care if they have symptoms.
Symptoms usually develop between two and seven weeks after exposure and can include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, clay-colored stools, joint pain, and jaundice.
Hepatitis A is a virus that infects the liver and most people who get Hepatitis A feel sick for several weeks, but they usually recover completely and do not have lasting liver damage. In rare cases, Hepatitis A can cause liver failure and death; this is more common in people older than 50 and in people with other liver diseases.
Health Department officials say that the restaurant, in conjunction with the Department of Health and Senior Services and the Butler County Health Department, is investigating and is taking necessary control measures to decrease the spread of the illness.

DEXTER POLICE WARNING AREA RESIDENTS ABOUT PHONE SPOOFING
Authorities in Dexter want area residents to mindful of Caller ID Spoofing.
According to the Dexter Police Department, there have been numerous cases of spoofing occurring in Dexter over the past few days. Police say that the callers are using software to disguise their actual phone number by showing a name and number you may be familiar with.
The caller may ask if you wish to set up a credit card account with them, however the caller is not affiliated with that business and is attempting to get your credit card information.
Officials say that you should be wary of any solicitations from a number that appears to be of a local business, or a business that you frequent. If you’re in doubt about the legitimacy of a caller, hang up the phone and initiate a call yourself by calling the business directly.
