NEW IMMUNIZATIONS REQUIRED FOR MISSOURI 8TH AND 12TH GRADERS Missouri students entering the 8th grade and 12th grade this fall will require an additional immunization for school.
According to the Butler County Health Department, one dose of meningoccal vaccine is now required for all students wishing to enter 8th grade. Two doses are now required for those going into the 12th grade, unless their first dose wasn’t received until the age of 16 or later, in which case one dose is sufficient.
A common outcome of meningococcal infection is meningitis. Meningococcal meningitis is very serious and can be fatal. In fatal cases, deaths can occur in as little as a few hours. In non-fatal cases, permanent disabilities can include hearing loss and brain damage.
Parents are advised to contact their family physician or local health department for more information on the meningoccal vaccine.
