HEAT BLAMED FOR LOCAL LANDSCAPER’S DEATH
A Dexter landscaper died over the weekend from working in the heat near Poplar Bluff.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration the worker was assisting in tree-trimming efforts when he became overheated Friday afternoon. The heat index was around 110 degrees at the time.
OSHA says the man’s core body temperature exceeded 108 degrees and he was taken to an area hospital where he died the next day.
The worker was identified as 23 year old Tyler Halsey. OSHA says it was only his fourth day working for the tree service based out of Indiana.
ELLSINORE MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGE
An Ellsinore man has been arrested in Butler County on a felony charge.
According to the Highway Patrol, 53 year old Daniel Ford was taken into custody Monday evening on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Ford is also facing a charge driving while intoxicated.
TEN POUNDS OF MARIJUANA CONFISCATED DURING SEARCH IN RIPLEY COUNTY
Multiple people have been taken into custody after marijuana was found in Ripley County.
According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, ten pounds of marijuana was found, along with other evidence, during the execution of a search warrant.
Officials say that three people have been taken into custody in connection to the search; however their names have not been released.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON WARRANT FOR DISTRIBUTION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
An area man is in custody following his arrest in Stoddard County.
Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell us that 40 year old Dennis Fann, of Poplar Bluff, was recently arrested on a warrant for distribution of a controlled substance.
Fann’s bond was set at $35,000 cash only. The Sheriff’s Department says that he was still in jail as of this morning.
METH ARREST MADE MONDAY NIGHT IN WAYNE COUNTY
A Piedmont man is facing charges following his arrest last night in Wayne County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 51 year old William McKinney was arrested at 9:30 pm on charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
McKinney was held in Wayne County following the arrest.
VA MEDICAL CENTER TO HOST LOCAL ART EXHIBIT FOR 9/11 ANNIVERSARY
The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff is looking for local art pieces for a memorial to mark 15th anniversary of 9/11.
The Medical Center is seeking prints, paintings, drawings, digital works, mixed media or even sculptures for the project.
Artists are asked to submit 2 to 3 images of your piece, the title, and size, along with your name and contact information to myhvet@gmail.com.
There is no entry fee and submissions must be received by August 22nd.
Accepted artwork will be displayed at the VA Medical Center during the week of September 5th and also highlighted during the memorial service at the VA Medical Center on September 9th.
ROAD IN WAYNE AND CARTER COUNTIES TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
Route KK in Wayne and Carter County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The road will be closed, except for local traffic only, from Route 34 to Twin Ponds Road.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm.
