MAN FOUND IN POSSESSION OF FIREARMS AND DRUGS IN POPLAR BLUFF
A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple charges after he was found in possession of drugs and firearms.
Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley tells KWOC News that officers arrested 60 year old Michael Woods on Saturday.
We spoke with Chief Whiteley about the arrest.
DANNY WHITELEY:
On Saturday at approximately 6:30 p.m. a concerned citizen saw something suspicious at a house located at 717 Ethel Street. Our officers were dispatched and came in contact with a subject who was later identified as Michael Woods of Poplar Bluff. The reporting party thought it might be a burglary in progress and when our officers contacted the subject they saw a taser, which they asked him put down and a pat down for weapons revealed a couple of knives and a handgun. He was placed in custody at that time. Later there were items of crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and morphine that were on his person. A further search of the motorcycle he was on revealed another handgun all of which were seized and this subject placed under arrest for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful use of a firearm. This will continue to be an ongoing investigation, we believe he may have some felony convictions in the past we will submit this to Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms for further disposition. A couple things, one you’ve got a person with a criminal history that has dope on them, have handguns in their possession, and at a house, that can turn out to be a dangerous situation anytime. I want to commend the public that helped us on this thing, paying attention, and not getting involved as sometimes happens. We are no better than the community that we police and their cooperation and I certainly want to thank them for paying attention, for stepping up, and being counted in advising this situation. This could have turned into a deadly occurrence and by their proactive response, it turned out good.
Following the arrest, Woods was transported to the Butler County Justice Center.
TWO POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENTS ARRESTED ON FELONY CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGES
Two Poplar Bluff residents were taken into custody over the weekend on felony controlled substance charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, both 47 year old John Peters and 37 year old Jennifer Hampton were arrested Saturday night in Stoddard County on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Hampton is also facing a charge of felony tampering with evidence.
Both arrestees were taken to the Stoddard County Jail on a 24 hour hold.
HIGHWAY 60 TO BE REDUCED FOR ROAD REPAIRS THIS WEEK
US 60 in Carter and Shannon Counties will be reduced to one lane this week while crews perform joint and crack sealing on the roadway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, work is scheduled for today through Thursday from 7 am to 3:30 pm each day.
The work zone is located from Route P in Carter County to 1 mile east of Winona.
7TH ANNUAL WAYNE COUNTY FAIR SCHEUDLED FOR THIS WEEKEND
The 7th Annual Wayne County Fair has been scheduled for this weekend.
A truck pull has been set for 6 pm on the opening day of the fair on Friday.
Events scheduled for Saturday include the logger games, the bench dog show, the pedal tractor pull, and more.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES EARLY THIS MORNING
A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple felony charges following his arrest early Tuesday morning in Wayne County.
According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 47 year old Bobby Brown was taken into custody shortly before 2 am on felony charges of resisting arrest by fleeing, possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Brown is also facing charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
GOVERNOR PARDONS MAN CONVICTED OF BURGLARY AND STEALING IN STODDARD COUNTY
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon announced a total of 14 pardons last Friday, including one for a man who was convicted on multiple charges in Stoddard County.
One of the pardons went to David Newell, who was placed on a two-year term of probation after being convicted in 1970 in Stoddard County of burglary and stealing.
According to Nixon, Newell successfully completed probation and went on to work for more than three decades at a food processing plant. He is currently retired.
TWO ORAN RESIDENTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES
A narcotics investigation has led to the arrest of two Oran residents on drug related charges.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter tells KWOC News that deputies and investigators executed a search warrant Sunday evening at a residence in Oran.
During the search officials located a brown powdery substance and a crystal like substance which both field tested positive for methamphetamine. Articles of drug paraphernalia, numerous prescription narcotics, and marijuana were also found.
Walter says that both 48 year old Joseph Arnold and 46 year old Joie Green were taken into custody on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
PAVEMENT REPAIRS SET FOR TODAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
Route 25 in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs
The work zone will be located between Broadway Road and Route 62.
Work is scheduled to be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm.
