ONE KILLED, FOUR INJURED, IN FIVE VEHICLE WRECK IN PEMISCOT COUNTY  

A Kennett man was pronounced dead at the scene of a five vehicle wreck Sunday night.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred at around 8:20 pm on US Highway 412.

42 year old Eddie Spriggs, of Kennett, was killed in the wreck. Four others were injured, including 54 year old Herman Sheperd, of Caruthersville, who received serious injuries and was flown to a Memphis hospital.

 

ONE KILLED IN CRASH IN CONNECTION TO POLICE PURSUIIT

 

There were two motor vehicle wrecks Sunday in connection to a police pursuit in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Arkansas State Police, a stolen vehicle was involved in a pursuit with Kennett Police Sunday morning that crossed into Arkansas.

At approximately 10:35 am, a Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the stolen car near Rector on U.S. 49. As the pursuit entered the city, the deputy’s patrol car collided with another vehicle unrelated to the pursuit.

84 year old Sadine Dixon, of Rector, was killed in the collision. The deputy was injured and taken to an area hospital.

The pursuit, involving State Police and local law enforcement agencies, continued into Paragould and ended shortly after 11 am when the stolen vehicle collided with a concrete retaining wall.

Officials say the driver was identified as 36 year old Robert Huffines, of Holcomb. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as 32 year old Lea Mamino, of Collinsville, Illinois. Both were taken into custody and held in the Greene County Jail.

 

WILLIAMSVILLE WOMAN FACING MULTIPLE FELONIES FOLLOWING ARREST IN BUTLER COUNTY

 

A Williamsville woman was taken into custody Sunday night on multiple felony charges.

According to authorities, 21 year old Kelli Atchison was arrested at around 10:30 pm in Butler County on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia.

Atchison is also facing a charge of interfering with investigation. Following the arrest, she was taken to the Butler County Jail.

 

MAN FACING METH CHARGE OUT OF RIPLEY COUNTY

 

Authorities have arrested a Doniphan man in Ripley County on a meth related charge.

According to the Highway Patrol, 32 year old Matthew Cannon was taken into custody Sunday night on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cannon was transported to the Doniphan Police Department, following the arrest.

 

TENNESSEE FUGITIVE ARRESTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

 

A fugitive who has been on the run for over a decade has reportedly been captured in Southeast Missouri.

Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tell us that in November of 2005, detectives with the Springfield Police Department obtained warrants charging a man, who used the false identity of Joe Anthony Mercado Ortiz, with 4 counts of child rape and 5 counts of aggravated sexual battery.

Ortiz was arrested on November 15th, 2005, and was released after posting bond. One week later, Ortiz failed to appear in court at his appointed time, and a warrant was issued for him.

On Friday, officers with the Hayti Police Department located and arrested the man known as Joe Anthony Mercado Ortiz at an area hotel.

Officials say that the subject’s real identity is still unknown, but officers were able to identify him based on tattoos. He was booked in the Pemiscot Sheriff’s Office while awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

 

PUBLIC TIP LEADS TO ARREST OF ESCAPED SCOTT COUNTY INMATE

 

An inmate who escaped from custody last week from the Scott County Jail has been captured.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says that a tip from the public led to the arrest of 31 year old Joshua A. Musgrove.

Musgrove escaped from custody at about 3:30 pm Thursday while he was being returned from a court appearance.

Sheriff Walter says Musgrove was taken back into custody without incident.

 

HOLCOMB TEENAGER KILLED IN HEAD ON COLLISION

 

One man has died, while another is injured, following a head on collision near Holcomb.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred Sunday evening on Highway 153 in Dunklin County.

A vehicle, driven by 32 year old Margarito Gallegos, of Columbia, Missouri, reportedly crossed the center line of the highway and struck another vehicle head on.

The driver of the second vehicle, 18 year old Caleb Wilcox, of Holcomb, was taken by air to a Memphis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Gallegos was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

 

PAVEMENT REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

 

Route DD in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs

The section of roadway to be affected is located between Route 53 and County Road 228.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Thursday from 7 am to 5 pm daily.
