POPLAR BLUFF MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MURDER CHARGE
A Poplar Bluff man has pleaded guilty to a murder charge in connection to an incident that occurred last year.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, earlier this week 34 year old Joseph Wisdom pled guilty to charges of murder in the second degree, three Counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of assault in the first degree.
On March 8th, 2016, Wisdom fatally shot 50 year old Stahl Sturgeon, of Doniphan, drove to an area business with Sturgeon in the vehicle, and ran inside. Wisdom was immediately apprehended and later confessed to the shooting.
He is currently being held in Greene County, Missouri, pending sentencing.

TAX FILING DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR SOME RESIDENTS IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
Officials in Arkansas have announced that the tax filing deadline for some residents has been extended.
According to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, Arkansans who live or own businesses in flood-stricken counties will have additional time to meet state tax obligations.
The extended deadlines apply to taxpayers in 13 counties including Clay, Lawrence, and Randolph. Under the directive, tax filings due on or after April 26th, 2017, will now be due August 31st, 2017. The IRS has extended similar deadlines for the filing of federal taxes in the affected counties.
TWO AREA COMMUNITIES AWARDED BLOCK GRANTS
Two area communities have been chosen among five statewide to receive grant money from the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
The DED approved the grants for a total of over 1.2 million dollars through the Community Development Block Grants program. The grants will help fund crucial infrastructure projects such as water systems and disaster recovery efforts.
The City of Arbyrd has been approved for $500,000 to help repair manholes and lift stations, repair and/or replace sewer lines and modify the existing lagoons to a non-discharge lagoon system with a spray field application system.
The city is currently dealing with inflow and infiltration problems due to a wastewater system that has not been upgraded since its installation in 1984.
Pemiscot County has been approved for $121,585 on behalf of the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital, who will utilize the funds to replace a non-repairable chiller system.
RIPLEY COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY AND TOMORROW
Route C in Ripley County will be closed today and tomorrow so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.
The section of roadway to be affected is located from Route 160 to the Carter County line.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 am to 6 pm each day. The work zone will be open to local traffic only.
PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CAUSE CLOSURE OF NEW MADRID COUNTY ROAD
Route NN in New Madrid County will be closed over two days as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
According to MoDOT, work is scheduled to be performed today and tomorrow from 6:30 am to 4:30 pm daily.
The work zone is located from Route 62 to County Road 524.
