KENNETT MAN KILLED IN HEAD ON COLLISION IN NORTHEAST ARKANSASA Kennett man was one of two people killed in a wreck Wednesday afternoon in Northeast Arkansas.
According to the Arkansas State Police, the wreck occurred shortly before 2:30 pm Wednesday on US Highway 62 in Baxter County.
A vehicle, driven by 64 year old Phillip Woods, of Jonesboro, reportedly crossed the center line of the highway and struck another vehicle head on.
Officials say that both Woods and the driver of the second vehicle, 65 year old Jimmy Lowe, of Kennett, were killed in the wreck.
FEDERAL ASSISTANCE DEADLINE FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND NONPROFIT AGENCIES EXTENDED TO JULY 14TH Missouri state officials have announced that the public assistance application deadline for local governments and nonprofit agencies has been extended to mid-July.
Local governments and nonprofit agencies in 46 Missouri counties affected by the flooding earlier this year now have until July 14th to prepare their requests for federal assistance with repairs to public infrastructure and emergency response costs.
Officials say that over 190 county and local governments, school, sewer and road districts, and nonprofit agencies have filed Requests for Public Assistance, which is a requirement to receive FEMA assistance.

SIKESTON MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT Authorities in Stoddard County say that a Sikeston man has been taken into custody on a controlled substance warrant.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 33 year old Jeremy Burnett was recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Burnett’s bond was set at $10,000 and officials say he remained in jail as of this morning.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI UNDER A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER TODAY Officials with the National Weather Service say that a storm system arriving in Southeast Missouri today is carrying with it a slight risk of severe weather.
According to a hazardous weather outlook issued this morning, the primary hazard will be locally damaging winds, but isolated large hail and even a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
Heavy rainfall and frequent dangerous lightning will accompany some storms, with the primary time frame for the strongest storms coming this afternoon and early tonight.
HIGHWAY PATROL PREPARING FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND TRAFFIC With the Fourth of July weekend coming up, troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol are preparing for an increase in travelers on Missouri’s roadways.
Officials tell KWOC News that the Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. over the July Fourth holiday weekend. All available officers will be patrolling Missouri’s roadways enforcing Missouri’s traffic laws in addition to being available to assist motorists.
Troopers throughout the state will also be participating in a 20-Mile Trooper enforcement project today and Tuesday. As part of this special enforcement project, troopers will patrol a 20-mile length of interstate or designated highway and make every effort to be a visible enforcement presence.
The project will include both Interstate 55 and Highway 60 in Southeast Missouri.
SAFETY TIPS FOR YOUR PETS DURING THE INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY While fireworks are a great treat for many during the Fourth of July, your pets might not enjoy them as much as you do.
The Humane Society of Missouri says that the loud noises can cause dogs and cats to act out of character. A startled dog or cat may hide or try to escape the noise by digging under, chewing through or climbing over fences.
The Humane Society has released some tips for keeping your pet happy during the holiday.
Give your pet a quiet, cool place to retreat inside where sounds are less intense.
Keeping them inside will also protect them from stray fireworks. Their retreat could be a basement or an interior room like a bathroom with access to clean, cool water.
