MOTORCYCLE WRECK CLAIMS LIFE OF LILBOURN MAN
An area man was killed in a motorcycle wreck early Sunday morning in Butler County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 26 year old Johnny Riley, of Lilbourn, failed to negotiate a curve on the Missouri Highway 158 off ramp to US 67 and was ejected from his motorcycle.
Riley was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital where he was pronounced dead.
ONE DEAD FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
A Mississippi man has died from injuries he received in a single vehicle wreck Friday afternoon in New Madrid County.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 62 year old Floyd Hill, of Goodman, Mississippi, was driving on Interstate 55 when his vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned.
Hill was ejected during the wreck and later pronounced dead at a Sikeston hospital.
NEW STOP SIGNS ADDED IN NEW MADRID
Motorists in the city of New Madrid should be on the lookout for new stop signs.
According to the New Madrid Police Department, the city council recently voted to add stop signs at Mitchell and Riley.
The stop signs were put in place due to children playing in the area.
The New Madrid Police Department Facebook page says that warnings will be given for a short time with the understanding that the signs are new, but officers will be forced to give citations in the future if problems persist.
POPLAR BLUFF FOURTH OF JULY ACTIVITIES
With Independence Day coming up tomorrow, that means it is time for the annual parade and fireworks in Poplar Bluff.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 9 am Tuesday, with line up starting at 8 am at the Water Park. Trophies will be awarded to the top three floats.
The fireworks display is scheduled to start at around 9 pm.
MAN FACING GUN AND DRUG CHARGES FOLLOWING WEEKEND ARREST
Authorities in Wayne County arrested a Piedmont man Saturday morning on drug and firearm charges.
Officials with the Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 42 year old Brian McDole was taken into custody on felony charges of possession with intent to distribute for methamphetamine and marijuana.
McDole is also facing charges of possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm and five counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Following the arrest, McDole was transported to the Wayne County Jail.
POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND ON METH CHARGE
A Poplar Bluff woman is facing multiple felony charges following her arrest this past weekend in Butler County.
According to authorities, 30 year old Valerie Hobbs was arrested shortly after midnight Sunday morning on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance – alprazolam, and possession of meth paraphernalia.
Following the arrest, Hobbs was held at the Butler County Jail.
TWO FACING METH CHARGE IN CONNECTION TO EARLY SATURDAY MORNING ARREST
Two Poplar Bluff residents were taken into custody early Saturday morning on a meth charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, both 37 year old Kelly Holcomb and 35 year old Lucas Moore were arrested in Butler County at around 12:25 am Saturday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Arrest reports for Holcomb and Moore say that they were each also arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
NEW MADRID COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED UNTIL OCTOBER
Route WW in New Madrid County will be closed until October so contractor crews can perform a bridge construction.
According to MoDOT, the bridge is located between County Roads 404 and 733.
Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin today, with the road re-opening on Sunday, October 1st.
