KENNETT TEENAGER PLEADS GUILTY TO RAPING TWO GIRLS
A Kennett teenager was sentenced earlier this week after pleading guilty to the rape of two girls in Northeast Arkansas.
Scott Ellington, Prosecuting Attorney for the 2nd Judicial District of Arkansas tells KWOC news that 18 year old Carlo Love entered the plea Monday in Mississippi County Circuit Court.
Ellington says the incident occurred in November of last year and involved two children under the age of 12.
Love was sentenced to twenty years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, which will be followed by a ten-year suspended imposition of sentence.
APPROXIMATELY 200 GALLONS OF GAS SPILLED IN PUXICO
Around 200 gallons of gas was spilled Tuesday in Puxico.
According to authorities, the spill occurred when a hose came loose on a gas truck that was delivering fuel.
Some of the fuel reportedly leaked into the sewer system and a cleanup operation was started.
POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW NIGHT
The 8th annual Poplar Bluff Community Thanksgiving Dinner by Chartwells is scheduled for this week.
The dinner will take place from 5 to 7 pm Thursday night at Poplar Bluff High School.
School officials say that the meal is free of charge and open to the public.
Entertainment will be provided by the PBHS Jazz Band and Choir.
Donations of gloves, hats and scarves will be accepted for children in need, along with monetary donations for the purchase of Haven House Christmas gifts.
POPLAR BLUFF TEACHER GIVEN UNSUNG HERO AWARD
A Poplar Bluff teacher was awarded as an unsung hero last week during the Missouri School Teachers Association Assembly of Delegates in Columbia.
Middle School teacher Karmen Carson received the 2017 Unsung Heroes award during the event.
Carson, an educator of nearly 20 years, has served as president of the Poplar Bluff chapter of MSTA since 2009. The MSTA is a state association made up of more than 47,000 educators.
According to the award letter, the award acknowledges about 30 members who made a "substantive yet unrecognized contribution" to the organization's mission, which is to advocate for and empower public educators so they can teach.
BUTLER COUNTY HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN MADE AVAILABLE ONLINE
The 2017 Butler County Hazard Mitigation plan is available online.
The plan is required in order for a community to be eligible to receive federal mitigation grant funding.
This is an update to the Butler County Hazard Mitigation Plan that was approved in 2012. Both were prepared by the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission.
A link to the plan was posted yesterday by the City of Poplar Bluff City Hall Facebook page. According to the post, the plan will not be voted on until December 4th.
