BUTLER COUNTY REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FORUM HELD THURSDAY NIGHT It was a packed house last night at the Butler County Courthouse for the Butler County Republican Candidate Forum.
A total of 15 candidates running for five separate county offices spoke at the forum. The event lasted for about an hour and featured the candidates speaking about themselves and giving their reasons for why they should win the nomination.
The primary election will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd.
MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested a Bell City man on a controlled substance warrant.
Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell us that 23 year old Owen Tyler Watkins was recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Watkins bond was set at $75,000 cash only.
ELLINGTON WOMAN INJURED IN REYNOLDS COUNTY WRECK An Ellington woman has been taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital following a wreck in Reynolds County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred when 65 year old Delorse Dea was allegedly driving her vehicle on the wrong side of County Road 710 and struck another vehicle.
Dea suffered moderate injuries in the wreck. No injuries were listed for the driver of the second vehicle.
PRACTICE TO BEGIN MONDAY FOR POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES The summer is almost over for athletes at Poplar Bluff High School.
Poplar Bluff Director of Athletics Kent Keith tells us that students participating in fall sports will begin practice on Monday.
Practice will start at 7:30 am for cross country at Hendrickson Park. Football and softball players will both begin practicing at 8 am at Bacon Park. At 9 am, volleyball practice will start at the old high school gym.
In the afternoon, tennis players will be meeting at 3 pm at the old high school tennis courts. Soccer practice is set to begin at 4 pm at the new Mules Stadium.
EVENTS ANNOUNCED FOR 2016 BUTLER COUNTY FAIR Multiple events have been announced for the 2016 Butler County Fair.
The fair will take place from September 29th to October 1st. The fair parade has been scheduled for Thursday, September 29th. Any business, group, church, or civic organization that would like to participate can contact Jack Altman at 573-718-0588.
The Butler County Fair BBQ Contest will begin on Friday, September 30th at 7 pm. Officials say there will be multiple classes and categories available at the contest. Judging will be held on Saturday, October 1st.
The fair will also feature a demolition derby on October 1st at Ray Clinton Park.

COMMUNITY CLEARN UP EVENT TO BE HELD IN DEXTER A Community Cleanup event has been scheduled for next weekend in Dexter.
The event will be held from 8 am to 8 pm Saturday, August 6th, at the Dexter Eagles parking lot. They will be taking old computers, cell phones, satellite equipment, air conditioner units, office equipments, televisions, appliances, and batteries.

ENTRIES BEING ACCEPTED FOR 8TH ANNUAL MULESKINNER GOLF TOURNAMENT The 8th Annual Muleskinner Golf Tournament is only one week away.
The 4 person scramble tournament will be held on Friday, August 5th at the Westwood Hills Country Club. Organizers say the entry fee is $500 per team, which includes a cart and lunch. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100 per hole.
All proceeds will go to benefit the Poplar Bluff Mules athletics programs.
