EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON
An Excessive Heat Warning will go into effect today for some of our listeners in the Missouri Bootheel and Northeast Arkansas.
According to the National Weather Service, the excessive heat warning will be in effect from noon to 7 pm for Dunklin and Pemiscot Counties in Southeast Missouri as well as many counties in Northeast Arkansas, including Clay and Greene. In these areas, peak heat index readings could range from 105 to 115 degrees.
A Heat Advisory will be in effect from noon to 8 pm for most of the rest of our listening area. High temperatures will be in the mid 90’s today, with peak heat indexes in the afternoon being around 105 degrees.
Anyone who works or spends time outdoors will be at potential risk for heat-related illness including heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Remember to drink plenty of fluids and take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
2017 PBHS FRESHMAN ORIENTATION TO BE HELD ON AUGUST 9TH
The incoming freshman class to Poplar Bluff High School will get their first taste of high school life early next month.
The 2017 PBHS Freshman Orientation will be held from 7:30 am to noon on Wednesday, August 9th. This is a student only event, where the new freshmen will get to meet their advisory class, learn the layout of the campus, receive their class schedule, and participate in other activities.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend an open house for the Senior High School which will be held on August 22nd from 5:30 to 7 pm.
The new school year will begin in the Poplar Bluff School District on Thursday, August 17th.
DATE SET FOR THREE RIVERS COLLEGE’S SECOND ANNUAL RUN 4 THE ARTS EVENT
The date has been set for the second annual Run 4 the Arts in Poplar Bluff.
Three Rivers College will host the four-mile run and walk on Saturday, September 9th at 9 am.
Officials say that the event is being held to raise funds towards an endowed scholarship for fine arts students at Three Rivers College.

CAMPBELL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT APPROVED FOR GRANT TO GO TO NEW FIRE STATION PROJECT
The Campbell Volunteer Fire Department has been approved for a grant to go to the new fire station project.
According to the Fire Department’s Facebook page, the project has been approved for a $462,200 30 year loan and a $7,800 grant.
The post says that progress on the project will begin in the next several months.
PARAGOULD ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS
Residents in Paragould should be prepared to find a detour if they drive on Spring Grove Road.
According to the Paragould Police Department, beginning today, Spring Grove Road will be closed for approximately three weeks in order to remove drainage tiles and replace them with a concrete structure.
Police say that the closure will be located just south of Mark Street.
MODOT CREWS TO REDUCE RIPLEY COUNTY ROAD FOR BRIDGE MAINTENANCE
Route H in Ripley County will be reduced to one lane through next Tuesday as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.
The bridge involved is located over Drain Ditch between Route KK and County Road H-6.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily through Tuesday, August 1st.
