ARRESTS MADE IN REYNOLDS COUNTY SHOOTINGAuthorities in Ellington say that two men have been arrested in Ohio, in connection to the double homicide that took place in Reynolds County on October 18th.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 86 year old James Nance and his wife, 72 year old Janet Nance, both of Ellington, died from injuries sustained from the incident. A third victim, a 73-year- old female, is recovering from wounds she sustained during the attack.
Information devolved during the investigation, which led investigators to a motel in Deerfield Township, Ohio, where two men were taken into custody without incident. They are identified as 44 year old Timothy Callahan, of Farmington, and 67 year old David Young, of Ironton. Both men are facing charges in Reynolds County for murder 1st degree.
They are each being held without bond and extradition proceedings are underway in the state of Ohio.
ALMOST THREE MONTH LONG BRIDGE PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY Route K in Stoddard County will be closed for almost three months beginning today so contractor crews can replace a bridge.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the bridge is located over the Castor River between County Road 267 and Route V.
Weather permitting, work will begin today with the bridge expected to re-open on Tuesday, January 23rd.
9TH ANNUAL HOWLING AT THE MOON SCHEUDLED FOR FRIDAY NIGHT The Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri is preparing for their upcoming benefit on Friday.
“Howling at the Moon,” the 9th annual fall benefit for the AWA is scheduled for 6 to 10 pm Friday night at the Westwood Center in Poplar Bluff.
Tickets will be available at the door with proceeds going towards building a no-kill animal shelter. There will be catering provided by Mayas and live entertainment by “Thin Blue Line” at the event.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS FROM THE POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT Halloween is coming up tomorrow and Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley has some tips to help keep your child safe while trick or treating tomorrow tonight.
Chief Whiteley says parents should establish a route for children, making sure they stay within familiar areas and surroundings. An adult should accompany young children. Parents should also remind kids not to enter strangers' homes or cars, and to avoid homes without an outside light on.
Be sure to tell your children to not eat treats until they get home and remember to inspect all treats before allowing your kids to eat them.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN IN CUSTODY ON SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AND WEAPON WARRANT A Poplar Bluff man is in custody this morning on a sexual misconduct warrant.
According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, 46 year old Jason Graves was recently arrested on a warrant for felony possession of a firearm and felony defacing a firearm.
Officials say that Jones remains in jail as of this morning with no bond warrants.
WESTBOUND US 60 TO BE REDUCED BEGINNING TODAY IN CARTER COUNTY Westbound US 60 in Carter County will be reduced to one lane with a 16-foot width restriction beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform concrete repairs.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 4 pm, daily through Friday, November 10.
MoDOT officials say that the work zone, located from Route M to Route C, may be set-up for 24-hours a day.
DES ARC COMMUNITY CENTER TO HOST CHILI SUPPER AND BAKE SALE THIS WEEKEND The Des Arc Community Center will be hosting a chili supper and bake sale this weekend.
Jackie Brandmeyer, Chairperson of the Community Center tells us that the event will be held from 3 to 7 pm on Saturday and will be all you can eat for a donation.
Brandmeyer says that all proceeds will go to support the utility and insurance fund for the building.
