SHOOTING LEAVES ONE DEAD IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
A shooting in New Madrid County over the weekend has resulted in one death and multiple injuries.
According to authorities, the incident occurred Sunday in Lilbourn.
Corey Rowe Jr. died from injuries he received in the shooting while two other men were injured and transported to a hospital in Memphis.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
REYNOLDS COUNTY PROSECUTOR SAYS HE WILL SEEK THE DEATH PENALTY FOR TWO ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO DEADLY SHOOTING
The death penalty is being brought up for two men who have been arrested following the shooting deaths of two people in Reynolds County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 67 year old David Young, of Ironton, and 44 year old Timothy Callahan, of Farmington, were arrested Saturday in connection to the shooting deaths of James and Janet Nance on October 18th near Ellington.
A third victim in the shooting is recovering from wounds she sustained during the attack.
Both Young and Callahan were charged Saturday with two counts each of first-degree murder. Both men are also facing additional charges of armed criminal action, robbery, and assault.
Reynolds County prosecutor Michael Randazzo said in an interview Monday that he will seek the death penalty.
RETIRED NASA OFFICIAL TO SERVE AS BUTLER COUNTY CYBER AND TECHNOLOGY CHAMPION
Butler County Commissioners have unanimously appointed a retired senior NASA official as the Butler County Cyber and Technology Champion.
According to the Butler County Emergency Management Agency, Phillip A. Bounds will serve in a voluntary capacity for Butler County and will promote multiple technology related efforts, including information sharing, critical infrastructure protection, vulnerability assessments, policy planning and procedures.
Bounds will also leverage technology to enhance the community and citizens of Butler County, advise county leadership and the Emergency Management Agency, and serve as the internal and external county representative for cybersecurity, cyber and technology preparedness, and collaboration.
PIEDMONT MAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE IN WAYNE COUNTY
Authorities in Wayne County have arrested an area man on a felony drug charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 50 year old Gale Smith, of Piedmont, was arrested Monday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
He is also facing a charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, Smith was held at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
MODOT TO CONDUCT STATEWIDE DRILL THIS WEEK
Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation say that motorists should not be surprised if they see an increase in MODOT vehicles on roadways later this week.
MoDOT will hold a statewide drill on Thursday to test crews’ readiness for the upcoming winter months.
During the drill, MoDOT employees will react to a simulated forecast of significant snow for the entire state. The department’s emergency operations centers will activate and maintenance employees will be deployed to MoDOT’s 1,500 trucks. Emergency communications systems will also be tested.
Officials say that motorists may notice increased numbers of MoDOT vehicles on state routes during the drill. In rural areas, crews will deploy after 8 am, while in urban areas, the drill will not begin until after 9 am. The exercise should be completed by 3 pm.
RECTOR WINS ARKANSAS STATE MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIP
A marching band from Northeast Arkansas has won a state championship.
The Rector High School Marching Cougars won the Arkansas State Marching Band Contest in Class 1A on Monday.
The competition was held at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
