LOCAL MAN SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS IN PRISON ON MULTIPLE CHARGESAn area man has been sentenced on multiple charges stemming from a fatal wreck last year in Northeast Arkansas.

23 year old Bruce Stevens, of Poplar Bluff, was sentenced to six years in prison in connection to a wreck that killed 80 year old Jim Austin, of Peach Orchard, in February of 2015.

Stevens’ charges including manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

 

AREA MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY FOR POSSESSION OF HEROIN AND STEROIDS An area man was taken into custody yesterday on multiple felony possession charges.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell us that 26 year old Scott Hughes, of Broseley, was arrested Tuesday in Wayne County on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for heroin and steroids.

After his arrest, Hughes was taken to the Wayne County Jail on a 24 hour hold.

 

MULTIPLE TRAFFIC CHANGES MADE AROUND THE DONIPHAN SCHOOL Officials in Doniphan are warning drivers to be mindful of multiple changes that have been made to the roads around the Doniphan School.

The Doniphan Police Department tells us that several new signs have been placed around the school in an effort to make traffic flow smoother and be safer for children.

Additional restrictions are also in place for parking in the area of the school.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING DISTRIBUTION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGE A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple charges following his arrest Tuesday evening in Wayne County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 26 year old Robert Evans was arrested shortly before 6 pm Tuesday on a felony charge of distribution of a controlled substance for heroin.

Evans is also facing charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance in a jail facility.

He also reportedly had multiple felony warrants out of Butler County. Following the arrest, Evans was held in the Wayne County Jail.

 

CHARGES REQUESTED AFTER DOG WAS REPORTEDLY LEFT NEGELECTED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS Poplar Bluff police are seeking charges against two area residents after a dog was euthanized after have reportedly been left neglected for several weeks.

We spoke with Andy Cleaveland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department about the incident.

ANDY CLEVELAND:

On early Sunday afternoon on August 7th of 2016, officers from the Poplar Bluff Police Department responded to an incident regarding animal cruelty in the 300 block of Cleveland Street. Officers contacted a neighbor who advised that the canine at the residence had been neglected for several weeks having no food or water. Contact was made with the owner of the residence, who was identified as Paul Lindquist of the 300 block of Cleveland Street. Paul Lindquist advised that the owner of the canine was his daughter Ashley Lindquist, of Williamsville, Missouri. The canine was examined and determined to have suffered from severe malnutrition. It appeared that the dog had not been fed in several weeks. The dog also had fly larvae infestation in its ears and other significant medical issues. The medical condition of the canine had declined to the point that euthanasia was required. A report regarding this incident has been sent to the Butler County prosecutor's office requesting charges for the offense of animal neglect on Paul Lindquist and Ashley Lindquist.

 

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS THIS WEEK IN STODDARD COUNTY Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be in Stoddard County for the rest of this week for pavement repairs.

According to MoDOT, Route F in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane during the repairs from Route 60 to Route J.

Work is scheduled to take place daily from 6 am to 5 pm through Friday.

 

ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE RECORDED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI Officials with the United States Geological Survey say that another earthquake has been recorded in Southeast Missouri.

The 2.8 magnitude earthquake occurred shortly after 4 am Tuesday.

The epicenter of the quake was located around 8 miles southeast of Sikeston.

POLICE INVESTIGATING ROBBERY COMPLAINT AT POPLAR BLUFF HOTELPoplar Bluff Police are investigating a robbery complaint that was made over the weekend at an area hotel.

We spoke with Captain Dave Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department about the investigation.

DAVE SUTTON:

On Sunday morning at around 2 a.m. officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department were dispatched to Holiday Inn, located at 2781 North Westwood Boulevard, in reference to a robbery complaint. The clerk advised a white male suspect entered the hotel wearing black clothing and a black ski mask, displayed a handgun, and demanded the clerk give him money. The clerk opened the cash drawer and gave him all the bills. As the suspect fled the building he told the clerk not to call the police. The clerk believed the suspect was 5 foot 3 inches to 5 foot 5 inches tall, and weighed around a hundred and fifty pounds. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Poplar Bluff Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.

HAYTI MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED AFTER HIS VEHICLE OVERTURNED A Hayti man has been flown to a Memphis hospital following a single vehicle wreck early Monday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at around 4:30 am on County Road 489 in Pemiscot County.

A vehicle driven by 30 year old Carlos Gonzalez reportedly ran off the side of the road and overturned. Gonzalez was taken by helicopter to Region One Medical Center in Memphis with serious injuries.

 

MISSOURI RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATED TO MEET AT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The Butler County unit of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association will be holding a meeting on August 17th.

The meeting will begin at 10 am at the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce building. Todd Richardson, speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives is scheduled to be speaking.

Officials say that all retired teachers and school personnel are invited to attend.

Lunch will also be provided courtesy of Ozark Federal Credit Union.

 

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN ARRESTED ON METH AND MARIJUANA CHARGES A Poplar Bluff woman is facing multiple drug related charges in connection to her arrest on Monday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell us that 54 year old Sally Friar was arrested in Butler County on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Friar is also facing charges of possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana and failure to register a motor vehicle.

Following the arrest, Friar was taken to the Butler County Jail on a 24 hour hold.

 

TWO INJURED IN COLLISION IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS Two people were injured Monday in a wreck in Northeast Arkansas.

According to authorities, two vehicles collided head on Monday afternoon on Highway 34 in Greene County.

Both people that were injured were taken to an area hospital. The names of the people involved were not available.

 

ROAD WORK SET FOR TOMORROW IN STODDARD COUNTY Route TT in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane tomorrow so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

The work zone will be located from Route 60 to County Road 642.

Work is scheduled to take place from 6 am to 5 pm tomorrow.

ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED FOLLOWING WRECK IN RIPLEY COUNTYA Doniphan woman has died following a wreck over the weekend in Ripley County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred Sunday afternoon on Highway 160, near Fairdealing. A vehicle driven 36 year old Shayla Steward allegedly crossed the center line of the highway and struck another vehicle head on.

Steward was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was flown to Region One Medical Center in Memphis with serious injuries. A passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

 

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON DISTRIBUTION WARRANT A Dexter man has been taken into custody on a distribution warrant.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell us that 37 year old Brandon Campbell was arrested on a warrant for distribution of a controlled substance and probation violation.

Campbell’s bond was set at $25,000, cash only.

 

EARTHQUAKE RECORDED OVER THE WEEKEND IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI Officials with the United States Geological Survey tell us that an earthquake was recorded over the weekend in Southeast Missouri.

The 2.3 magnitude earthquake occurred shortly after 4 pm Saturday.

The epicenter for the quake was located around 20 miles east southeast of Kennett.

 

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TEACHER ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO INVESTIGATION A teacher who was set to begin work in Southeast Missouri during the upcoming school year has been arrested in connection to an investigation in Kentucky.

According to the Kentucky State Police, 40 year old David B. Jordan Jr. was arrested on Thursday as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes against Children investigation.

Officials say that the suspect was observed using an online chat system to communicate with a subject whom he believed to be a 14 year old female. On August 4th Jordan allegedly traveled across state lines from Missouri to Kentucky with plans to engage in illicit sexual contact with the minor.

Jordan has been charged with one count of prohibited use of an electronic communication system to procure a minor/police officer in reference: sex offenses. Additional charges are expected.

The Sikeston R-6 School District tells us that Jordan had been offered a position in June for the upcoming school year and at the time he was in possession of a valid teaching certificate and cleared background check.

However, he has not completed his new teacher orientation and has never taught at the school or had contact with Sikeston students.

Jordan has been placed on administrative leave pending termination.

 

FIVE INJURED IN BUTLER COUNTY WRECK Multiple people were injured Friday night following a two vehicle wreck in Butler County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred shortly after 8 pm Friday when a vehicle struck the rear of a second vehicle on Missouri Highway 51 at Fisk.

Officials say that five people were injured in the wreck and they were taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment.

 

PUXICO MAN IN CUSTODY ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested a Puxico man on a controlled substance warrant.

47 year old Robert Austin Wallace was recently taken into custody on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, Wallace remained in jail as of this morning and his bond has been set at $25,000 cash only.

 

SHOULDER REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS IN WAYNE COUNTY Route 34 in Wayne and Bollinger Counties will be reduced for almost two months so contractor crews can begin installing shoulders along the roadway.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone is located from County Road 808 to Route 67.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Saturday, October 1st from 7 am to 6 pm daily.

During the repairs, Route 34 will be reduced to one lane with an eleven-foot width restriction.

PIEDMONT MAN DIES FROM INJURIES RECEIVED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK Updating a story we brought to you earlier this week, a Piedmont man has died from injuries he received in a single vehicle wreck on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on Route 34 when a vehicle driven by 71 year old Jon Hartley ran off the roadway and struck a tree. Hartley received serious injuries in the wreck, and was taken a Poplar Bluff hospital.

He was then transferred to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he died on Thursday.

A passenger in the vehicle suffered moderate injuries. Their current condition was not available.

 

  MALDEN MAN ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT A Malden man has been taken into custody in Stoddard County on a controlled substance warrant.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell us that 31 year old Brandon Rice was arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Rice’s bond was set at $20,000 cash and officials say he remained in jail as of this morning.

 

  NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION TO BE HELD AT TWIN RIVERS NEXT WEEK Parents in the Twin Rivers School District will have the opportunity to register their children for school next week.

According to Twin Rivers High School Counselor Christina Miller, Twin Rivers will be registering new students Monday through Thursday, by appointment only.

Parents will need to bring their student’s immunization record, three proofs of residency in the Twin Rivers School District, birth certificate, and proof of guardianship if applicable.

  DATE SET FOR 13TH ANNUAL ST. JUDE CAR SHOW The date has been set for the 13th Annual St. Jude Car Show presented by Briggs and Stratton.

The show will be held on September 10th at Briggs and Stratton in Poplar Bluff. Registration is scheduled for 8 am to noon and there is a $20 entry fee. Awards will be presented at 3 pm.

  BACK TO SCHOOL SALES TAX HOLIDAY BEGINS TODAY The new school year is approaching fast and parents will be able to save some money on their back to school purchases this weekend.

The Missouri Back to School Sales Tax Holiday began at 12:01 am this morning and will run through Sunday. During the holiday, certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and certain other items, are exempt from state sales tax.

Many area counties and cities are also participating in the sales tax holiday; however the cities of Poplar Bluff and Doniphan are not among them. More information is available online at dor.mo.gov.

 

  ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND FOR OZARK BORDER ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE Ozark Border Electric Cooperative will be holding its annual Board of Directors election this weekend.

The election will be a part of the Cooperative’s Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting is scheduled to be held on Saturday at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff.

It was estimated that over 2,500 individuals were in attendance during last year’s meeting.

IDENTITY RELEASED OF MAN ARRESTED IN KENNETT SHOOTINGAuthorities in Kennett have released the identity of a suspect who was arrested in connection to a shooting earlier this week.

According to the Kennett Police Department, officers found 27 year old Isaac Lee Jefferson, of Kennett, shot and lying in front of a residence Tuesday evening. Jefferson was pronounced dead a short time later.

While officers were at the scene, 27 year old, Demetrius Jamal Woods, of Kennett, entered the Kennett Police Department and identified himself as the shooter of Jefferson.

Woods was arrested for investigation of 2nd degree homicide.

Officials say that there apparently was an ongoing dispute between the two over numerous reasons.

Investigators believe that there are witnesses to the shooting that have yet to speak with Police and are asking anyone with information to contact the Kennett Police Department at 888-4622.

 

FISK WOMAN FLOWN TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING BUTLER COUNTY WRECK A Fisk woman suffered serious injuries Wednesday night following a Butler County wreck.

According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred shortly before 11 pm on Missouri Highway 51 at County Road 639.

A vehicle driven by 42 year old Michelle Kelm reportedly failed to yield and was struck by a second vehicle. Kelm was seriously injured in the wreck and flown via Air Evac to Regional One in Memphis, Tennessee.

The driver of the second vehicle received moderate injuries and was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

 

TWO CANDIDATES END UP WITH SAME AMOUNT OF VOTES RIPELY COUNTY PRIMARY One of the primary races in Ripley County was so tight on Tuesday that it’s not over yet.

The primary for the Republican nomination for Western Associate Commission between Andy Towell and Jerry Kelly ended in a deadlocked tie, with both candidates getting 475 votes.

In the case of a tied primary, Missouri statues say that a special primary election can be held or the winner can be picked by drawing of lots if both candidates agree to it.

MAN FOUND WITH WALKING CANE FILLED WITH METH DURING PAROLE VISIT A man in Northeast Arkansas has been taken into custody after he was allegedly found in possession of methamphetamine during a parole visit.

Greene County Sheriff David Carter tells us that Scott Callahan was arrested when he showed up at his parole visit with a walking cane filled with measured out baggies of crystal methamphetamine.

Callahan was taken to the Greene County Detention Center on a charge of possession of crystal methamphetamine with purpose to deliver.

 

ENROLLMENT TO BE HELD NEXT WEEK FOR POPLAR BLUFF MIDDLE SCHOOL New middle school students in Poplar Bluff will get to enroll for school next week.

Poplar Bluff Middle School will be taking new enrollments for grades 4, 5, and 6 on August 9th, 10th, and 11th. Enrollment will be held at the Mules Cafe from 9 am to 2 pm.

The enrolment is for students who are new to Poplar Bluff schools, if your child attended one of the elementary buildings last year you do not need to enroll.

 

THREE BLOOD DRIVES SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH IN POPLAR BLUFF Officials with the American Red Cross tell us that multiple blood drives have been scheduled for this month in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Red Cross, blood donations have fallen short of hospital needs for the past few months, resulting in about 39,000 fewer donations than what’s needed, as well as a significant draw down of the overall Red Cross blood supply.

Area residents will have the opportunity to give blood on August 18th at the Black River Regional Medical Center.

Additional blood drives will also be held on August 19th and 20th at First United Methodist Church.

Multiple other blood drives will be held throughout the month in Southeast Missouri. You can find a donation place close to you at redcross.org.

BUTLER COUNTY ELECTION RESULTS

Over 30 percent of registered voters in Butler County participated in Tuesday’s Missouri primary election.

Butler County Clerk Tonyi Deffendall tells us that a total of 7,567 votes were cast in Butler County.

In the race for the Republican Nomination for Butler County Western District commissioner, Dennis ‘Boots’ Legrand won the nomination with 42.5 percent of the votes cast.

For commissioner of the Eastern District of Butler County, Don ‘Butch’ Anderson received over 73 percent of votes to take the Republican nomination. Legrand will face Democrat Doug Harwell while, Anderson will run against Democrat Van Rhodes in the November Election. Both Harwell and Rhodes ran unopposed yesterday.

Chris Rickman won the Republican nomination for Butler County Assessor with 56.6 percent of the vote.

The Republican nomination for Public Administrator was won by incumbent Sharron Payne, who was selected by almost 60 percent of voters.

Andy Moore has taken the Republican nomination for Butler County Coroner, receiving just over 50 percent of the vote.

In the city of Poplar Bluff, Mark Dobbs won the republican nomination for committeeman of Ward Five. Dobbs received just under 67 percent of votes cast. NOMINEES SELECTED FOR MISSOURI STATE OFFICES Missourians will be getting mostly new statewide elected officials next year following yesterday’s primary election.

Missouri will have a new governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and treasurer due to all five positions being vacated by incumbents.

This led to some to some highly competitive primary races, highlighted by the Republican battle for Governor. The Republican nomination went to Eric Greitens, who will now go on to face Democrat Chris Koster in November’s general election.

Lieutenant Governor will be a race between Republican Mike Parson and Democrat Russ Carnahan. Attorney General will see Democrat Teresa Hensley matched up with Republican Josh Hawley.

Democrat Robin Smith and Republican Jay Ashcroft are matched up for the Secretary of State position. State Treasurer will be contested by Democrat Judy Baker and Republican Eric Schmitt. ROY BLUNT TO FACE JASON KANDER FOR MISSOURI US SENATE SEAT United States Senator Roy Blunt easily won his nomination for reelection yesterday and will face the current Missouri Secretary of State in November’s election.

Blunt won the Republican nomination with over 72 percent of the vote. The Democratic nomination was won by Jason Kander, who received just under 70 percent of the votes cast.

Southeast Missouri’s representative in the United States House of Representatives, Republican Jason Smith, also sailed through his nomination, carrying over 67 percent of votes. Dave Cowell ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination. SUSPECT IN CUSTDOY IN CONNECTION TO KENNETT SHOOTING INVESTIGATION Authorities in Kennett say a suspect is facing a murder charge following a shooting Tuesday evening.

According to the Kennett Police Department, officers found 27 year old Isaac Lee Jefferson, of Kennett, shot and lying in front of a residence in the 900 block of North Baldwin Street. Jefferson was pronounced dead a short time later.

While officers were at the scene, a man arrived at the Kennett Police Department wanting to speak to an officer. The suspect identified himself as the shooter of Jefferson. Police officials say they will be seeking 2nd degree murder charges for the suspect, whose name was not released.

The investigation is still active, and investigators are urging anyone with information to contact the Kennett Police Department at 573-888-4622. SIKESTON MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD ENTICEMENT AND ATTEMPTED CHILD MOLESTATION CHARGES A Sikeston man has been taken into custody on an attempted child molestation charge.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter tells us that 51 year old Daniel Roland was arrested in connection to a call made from the Missouri Children’s Division in July.

When interviewed by deputies, Roland reportedly told them he was “very lonely” and that he cannot take back what he said to the juvenile.

Walter says that Roland has been charged with felony enticement of a child and attempted child molestation. His bond was set at $50,000 and he remains in custody at the Scott County Jail.

 

METH ARREST MADE TUESDAY AFTERNOON IN WAYNE COUNTY Authorities in Wayne County have arrested a Lowndes man on a methamphetamine charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 48 year old Lloyd Allen was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

He is also facing charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and driving while revoked.

Following the arrest, Allen was transported to the Wayne County Jail on a 24 hour hold. BACK TO SCHOOL FAIR TO BE HELD TODAY AT TWIN RIVERS HIGH SCHOOL A Back to School fair has been scheduled today for students at Twin Rivers.

The fair will be held from 1 to 7 pm at Twin Rivers High School.

The fair will be open to all students, kindergarten through 12th grade, in the Twin Rivers School District.

WOMAN AND CHILD RESCUED FROM RISING WATERS IN BUTLER COUNTYTwo people were rescued from flash flooding Monday in Butler County.

A woman and her four year old child had to be rescued after the woman’s vehicle stalled out in rising waters over County Road 4681. Both the Butler County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.

Officials say that both the woman and her child were recovered safely and there were no injuries during the incident.

 

WOMAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING HER BOYFRIEND WITH A HAMMER A woman has been taken into custody after her boyfriend accused her of assaulting him with a hammer.

We spoke with Lieutenant Darron Moore with the Poplar Bluff Police Department about the incident.

DARRON MOORE:

On Sunday around 4 pm, officers responded to the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office in reference to an assault. The victim, Archie Cox, had walked to the Prosecutor’s office after reportedly being assaulted with a hammer by his girlfriend, Brenda Garmon. Cox had obvious injuries on his face and complained also of injuries on his thigh as a result of the assault. Garmon was contacted at her residence in the 100 block of South 8th by officers and placed under arrest. She was booked on a charge of 2nd degree domestic assault and later released pending a review by the Prosecutor’s office.

Lieutenant Moore would further add that Archie Cox was later arrested by Butler County Deputies for an outstanding warrant through the Butler County Courts.

 

MAN ARRESTED IN THE MIDDLE OF A DRUG DEAL IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS A man was allegedly in the middle of a drug deal when he was taken into custody in Northeast Arkansas.

Greene County Sheriff David Carter tells KWOC News that Michael Faries was arrested over the weekend for possession and delivery of crystal methamphetamine.

Following the arrest, Faries was transported to the Greene County Detention Center.

 

PART OF BUTLER COUNTY UNDER BOIL WATER ADVISORY A boil water advisory is in effect for part of Butler County.

Officials announced Monday morning that Public Water Supply District #3 was under a boil water advisory until further notice.

A reason for the advisory was not released.

 

VOTING UNDERWAY IN MISSOURI’S PRIMARY ELECTION Polls opened this morning at 6 am for the Missouri Primary Elections.

Multiple local and state nominations are up for grabs, including Governor and one of Missouri’s two United States Senate seats on the state side, along with numerous races in Butler County. State officials estimate that 31 percent of Missouri’s registered voters will participate in today’s primary elections.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG BUST IN POPLAR BLUFF A Poplar Bluff man is facing charges after marijuana was found in his vehicle following a traffic stop.

Captain Dave Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that officers conducted the traffic stop Sunday evening on 23 year old Querone Jones.

Jones was arrested, and his vehicle impounded, after officers found that Jones operator’s license was suspended.

While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, officials found a plastic bag of marijuana and a set of scales.

Jones was booked in on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended, and no state registration. He was lodged in the Butler County Jail.

 

JONESBORO MAN IN CRITICAL CONDITION FOLLOWING ATV ACCIDENT IN CLAY COUNTY A man has been flown to a Memphis hospital following an ATV accident in Clay County.

According to Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller, Clay County 911 received a report of the accident Saturday night shortly before 11 pm.

The driver of the ATV, 25 year old Jay Tate, of Jonesboro, was found at the scene with multiple injuries. He was taken to a local hospital and later flown by Air-Evac to the Med in Memphis. Miller says the last reports they received were that Tate was in critical, but stable, condition.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.

 

WAYNE COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY AND TOMORROW FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS Route KK in Wayne County will be closed today and tomorrow while Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

MoDot officials say the section of Route KK to be closed is located from Route 34 to Twin Ponds Road.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm each day. During the repairs, the road will be open to local traffic only.

DONIPHAN MAN KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECKA Doniphan man was killed over the weekend in a single vehicle wreck in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Arkansas State Police, a vehicle driven by 63 year old Clifford Summers ran off of State Highway 328 in Randolph County, struck a ditch, and overturned.

Summers was ejected from the vehicle during the wreck. Officials say the incident occurred at around 1:30 am Sunday morning.

 

MAN ARRESTED ON METH AND MARIJUANA CHARGES IN BUTLER COUNTY Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell us that a Perryville man was arrested last week on a felony meth charge.

31 year old Howard Thilenius was arrested Thursday night in Butler County on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

He is also facing a charge of possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana.

 

THE DEADLINE TO ABSENTEE VOTE FOR PRIMARY ELECTION IS 5 PM There is still time to vote absentee for tomorrow’s primary election.

According to Butler County Clerk Tonyi Deffendall, today is the final day for absentee voting at the Butler County Clerk’s office.

Deffendall says that the office is scheduled to close this evening at 5 pm.

 

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CAUSE CLOSURE OF WAYNE COUNTY ROAD Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be in Wayne County today for pavement repairs on Route U.

During the repairs, Route U will be closed from Route B to the end of state maintenance

MoDot says the repairs are scheduled to be done from 7 am to 5 pm.

 

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING INCIDENT NEAR CURRENT RIVER IN CARTER COUNTY A man has died following an incident over the weekend in Carter County.

According to authorities, the man was injured after he jumped from a bluff near Van Buren. He later died at a Cape Girardeau hospital.

The identity of the man was not available.

 

TEEN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING PURSUIT WITH POLICE Authorities in Kennett have arrested a teenager in connection to a foot pursuit.

According to the Kennett Police Department, on Sunday morning officers were dispatched to a residence in the area of Providence Road in reference to property damage.

When officers arrived at the area, they noticed a suspect, later identified as 17 year old Miguel Limas, fleeing the scene on foot.

Officers began pursuit and were able to take Limas in custody following a brief struggle.

Limas was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center pending the filing of formal charges of property damage and resisting arrest.

 

DEXTER WOMAN ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT A Dexter woman has been taken into custody on a controlled substance warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Tiffany Michelle Jones was recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

As of this morning, Jones remained in jail on a $20,000 cash only bond.

 

PEMISCOT COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT Route M in Pemiscot County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a pipe under the roadway.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 4:30 pm.

The section Route M to be closed is located between County Road 483 and County Road 489.

BUTLER COUNTY REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FORUM HELD THURSDAY NIGHT It was a packed house last night at the Butler County Courthouse for the Butler County Republican Candidate Forum.

A total of 15 candidates running for five separate county offices spoke at the forum. The event lasted for about an hour and featured the candidates speaking about themselves and giving their reasons for why they should win the nomination.

The primary election will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd.

 

 

 

MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested a Bell City man on a controlled substance warrant.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell us that 23 year old Owen Tyler Watkins was recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

Watkins bond was set at $75,000 cash only.

 

  ELLINGTON WOMAN INJURED IN REYNOLDS COUNTY WRECK An Ellington woman has been taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital following a wreck in Reynolds County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred when 65 year old Delorse Dea was allegedly driving her vehicle on the wrong side of County Road 710 and struck another vehicle.

Dea suffered moderate injuries in the wreck. No injuries were listed for the driver of the second vehicle.

 

  PRACTICE TO BEGIN MONDAY FOR POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES The summer is almost over for athletes at Poplar Bluff High School.

Poplar Bluff Director of Athletics Kent Keith tells us that students participating in fall sports will begin practice on Monday.

Practice will start at 7:30 am for cross country at Hendrickson Park. Football and softball players will both begin practicing at 8 am at Bacon Park. At 9 am, volleyball practice will start at the old high school gym.

In the afternoon, tennis players will be meeting at 3 pm at the old high school tennis courts. Soccer practice is set to begin at 4 pm at the new Mules Stadium.

 

  EVENTS ANNOUNCED FOR 2016 BUTLER COUNTY FAIR Multiple events have been announced for the 2016 Butler County Fair.

IDENTITIES RELEASED OF TWO KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECKAuthorities in Clay County have released the name of two people who were killed in a single vehicle wreck earlier this month.

Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller tells us that Clay County 911 received a call on July 16th about a one vehicle rollover accident where the vehicle had become fully engulfed in flames.

Two people were found dead in the vehicle. Miller says they have now been identified as 24 year old Christopher Smith, of Kennett, and 43 year old Tracy Tippitt, of Campbell.

 

WOMAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON FELONY METH CHARGE A Mill Spring woman is facing a felony meth charge in connection to her arrest in Wayne County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 46 year old Melissa Gentles was taken into custody Wednesday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Gentles is also facing charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana.

Following the arrest, she was taken to the Wayne County Jail on a 24 hour hold.

 

 

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING STANDOFF IN FREDERICKTOWN Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, a suspect has been taken into custody following a standoff at a home Fredericktown.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested peacefully Wednesday morning.

A three block radius around the home had been evacuated as a part of the standoff.

In a Facebook post, the Fredericktown Police Department thanked multiple agencies for their assistance during the incident, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the SEMO Regional Bomb Squad.

 

BUTLER COUNTY REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FORUM TO BE HELD TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF Citizens in Butler County will get a chance to learn more about the Republican candidates for various county positions tonight at the the Butler County Republican Candidate Forum.

The forum will begin at 6:30 pm at the Butler County Courthouse. We spoke with the Chairman of the Butler County Republican Central Committee, Eddy Justice, about the event.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS UNDERWAY IN REYNOLDS AND WAYNE COUNTIES Crews have begun pavement repairs on Route AA in Wayne and Reynolds Counties.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route AA is being reduced to one lane with a 10 ft. width restriction from Route 49 to the end of state maintenance.

Work is scheduled to continue from 6 am to 9 pm daily through Thursday, September 1st.

WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY KIDNAPPING TWO YEAR OLDA Bernie woman is in custody in connection to the alleged kidnapping of a two year old child.

According to authorities, the kidnapping took place early Tuesday morning and the child was found during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon.

27 year old Nichole Ford has been taken into custody on a kidnapping charge.

 

ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI WRECK A Lilbourn man has been badly injured in connection to a single vehicle wreck Tuesday morning in New Madrid County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 65 year old Richard Smelser was driving on US 61 when his vehicle travelled off the left side of the road and struck a ditch. The Highway Patrol did not specify what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

Smelser was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau with serious injuries.

 

FALL KILLS MAN IN NORTHEAST ARKASNAS A Lake City man has died following a fall at a northeast Arkansas plant on Monday.

76 year old Marion Bunch reportedly fell through a skylight while working at the plant in Paragould.

He later passed away from injuries he received in the fall.

 

AREA EVACUATED IN CONNECTION TO ONGOING STANDOFF IN FREDERICKTOWN An area of Fredericktown has been evacuated in connection to an ongoing standoff between a man and police at an area home.

According to authorities, the incident began Tuesday evening and a three block radius around the house has been evacuated. A bomb squad is also at the scene.

The identity of the person involved in the standoff has not been released.

 

HEAVY RAIN AND LIGHTNING PRIMARY CONCERNS WITH STORMS TONIGHT While we are looking at chances of showers and thunderstorms throughout the week and upcoming weekend, the National Weather Service says the greatest chance will be for tonight and tomorrow.

According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the NWS the primary concerns with the storms tonight and tomorrow will be locally heavy rainfall and lightning. Chances of thunderstorms are forecast to continue each day through Sunday.

The NWS also reports that some areas may have heat index values reach near 100 degrees this afternoon as well.

 

2016 CHURCH EXPO SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND IN POPLAR BLUFF The 2016 Church Expo has been scheduled for this weekend.

The event will be held from 8 am to 8 pm Saturday at the Historic Wheatley School in Poplar Bluff.

The expo will include a prayer breakfast at 8 am, dinner at 5 pm, and multiple sessions in between. Following dinner, there will be a gospel performance by the Poplar Bluff Community Mass Choir.

HEAT BLAMED FOR LOCAL LANDSCAPER’S DEATH

A Dexter landscaper died over the weekend from working in the heat near Poplar Bluff.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration the worker was assisting in tree-trimming efforts when he became overheated Friday afternoon. The heat index was around 110 degrees at the time.

OSHA says the man’s core body temperature exceeded 108 degrees and he was taken to an area hospital where he died the next day.

The worker was identified as 23 year old Tyler Halsey. OSHA says it was only his fourth day working for the tree service based out of Indiana.

 

 

ELLSINORE MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGE

An Ellsinore man has been arrested in Butler County on a felony charge.

According to the Highway Patrol, 53 year old Daniel Ford was taken into custody Monday evening on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Ford is also facing a charge driving while intoxicated.

 

 

TEN POUNDS OF MARIJUANA CONFISCATED DURING SEARCH IN RIPLEY COUNTY

Multiple people have been taken into custody after marijuana was found in Ripley County.

According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, ten pounds of marijuana was found, along with other evidence, during the execution of a search warrant.

Officials say that three people have been taken into custody in connection to the search; however their names have not been released.

 

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON WARRANT FOR DISTRIBUTION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

An area man is in custody following his arrest in Stoddard County.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell us that 40 year old Dennis Fann, of Poplar Bluff, was recently arrested on a warrant for distribution of a controlled substance.

Fann’s bond was set at $35,000 cash only. The Sheriff’s Department says that he was still in jail as of this morning.

 

 

METH ARREST MADE MONDAY NIGHT IN WAYNE COUNTY

A Piedmont man is facing charges following his arrest last night in Wayne County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 51 year old William McKinney was arrested at 9:30 pm on charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

McKinney was held in Wayne County following the arrest.

 

 

VA MEDICAL CENTER TO HOST LOCAL ART EXHIBIT FOR 9/11 ANNIVERSARY

The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff is looking for local art pieces for a memorial to mark 15th anniversary of 9/11.

The Medical Center is seeking prints, paintings, drawings, digital works, mixed media or even sculptures for the project.

Artists are asked to submit 2 to 3 images of your piece, the title, and size, along with your name and contact information to myhvet@gmail.com.

MAN FLOWN TO ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL AFTER VEHICLE OVERTURNS AND STRIKES BUILDINGA Farmington man has been flown to a St. Louis hospital following a single vehicle wreck in Iron County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on Missouri Highway 21, near Arcadia, Friday evening.

A vehicle driven by 55 year old, Todd Milfeld, reportedly ran off the side of the roadway, overturned, and then struck a building.

Milfeld suffered serious injuries and was taken by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

The Highway Patrol did not release how much damage was done to the building.

 

WOMAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY WARRANT An Essex woman is in custody following her arrest in Stoddard County.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 27 year old Patricia Leeann Martin was arrested on a warrant out of Iowa for escape from custody.

Officials say Martin is in jail and awaiting extradition at this time.

 

ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN WAYNE AND IRON COUNTIES Route 49 in Wayne and Iron Counties will be reduced with a 10 foot width restriction beginning today so contractor crews can mill and perform paving operations.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from the junction of Route 21/72/49 to Route 34.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Wednesday, August 31st.

 

KENNETT MAN ARRESTED IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON METH AND MARIJUANA CHARGES A man was taken into custody Saturday evening in Ripley County on meth and marijuana charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Scotty Pullam, of Kennett, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pullam was taken to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office on a 24 hour hold.

 

WOMAN ARRESTED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS FOR POSSESSION OF CRYSTAL METHAMPHETAMINE Authorities in Northeast Arkansas say that a woman has been taken into custody on a meth charge.

Greene County Sheriff David Carter tells KWOC News that Ashley Galvan was arrested Thursday afternoon for possession of crystal methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Carter says that Galvan was also arrested on four warrants.

 

SIKESTON MAN FACING DRUG CHARGE FOLLOWING ARREST IN CARTER COUNTY A Sikeston man is facing a felony drug charge in connection to his arrest over the weekend.

According to authorities, 41 year old Matthew Thompson was arrested early Sunday morning in Carter County on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Thompson is also facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Following the arrest, Thompson was taken to the Carter County Jail on a 12 hour hold.

MAN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING SHOOTING DEATH IN REYNOLDS COUNTYOne arrest has been made in connection to a shooting death in Reynolds County.

According to authorities, a woman called 911 on Tuesday and said that someone was shooting at her vehicle. When deputies arrived at the scene they entered the home and found a man, later identified as 55 year old James Sumpter, of Bunker, who reportedly told them he had shot and killed a woman.

The victim, Tammy Skiles, was found dead in the home.

Sumpter was arrested and is facing charges of 1st degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. Bond was set at $1,000,000.

 

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT Authorities in Stoddard County have taken a Dexter man into custody on a controlled substance warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 52 year old David Allen Burnett was arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Officials say Burnett remained in jail as of this morning on a $7,500 cash only bond.

 

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR TO BE IN POPLAR BLUFF ON FRIDAY One of the candidates for the Republican nomination for Missouri Governor will be speaking with citizens in Poplar Bluff this week.

Catherine Hanaway will be making a stop at the St. Louis Bread Company in Poplar Bluff from 3 to 4 pm on Friday.

Hanaway also has stops planned for this week in other areas of Southeast Missouri.

 

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING EXTENDED TO SUNDAY Weather officials have extended the Excessive Heat Warning that is covering most of Southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning is now in effect through 8 pm on Sunday.

High temperatures and oppressive humidity are expected to push heat indices above 105 degrees today, and possibly over 110 degrees on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Officials say that a heat index of 105 degrees or higher is the level where the body becomes more susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Anyone who has to be outside is recommended to reschedule strenuous activities to the evening or early morning hours. Remember to also drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun if possible.

 

WOMAN TAKEN TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING SHOOTING IN BLYTHEVILLE A woman was injured in a shooting incident in Blytheville.

According to authorities, 31 year old Kenyatta Cook suffered a gunshot wound to her knee during the incident.

Cook was reportedly in a vehicle when the shooting occurred and she was taken to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

A passenger in the vehicle was not injured.

 

SIXTH ANNUAL ST. JUDE ARCHERY SHOOT AND AUCTION SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 13TH The date has been set for the 6th Annual St. Jude Archery Shoot and Auction.

The event, presented by US Bank, will be held from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturday, August 13th at the Missouri Department of Conservation Archery Range on NN Highway. The event will include novelty shoots, a free youth archery camp, a pop-up archery tournament, and other demonstrations.

ATHLETE PHYSICALS TO BE HELD TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High student athletes can get a free physical tonight at the High School Annex.

Physicals will be conducted beginning at 5:30 pm for athletes in the 7th and 8th grades, beginning at 6:30 for 9th and 10th grades, and beginning at 7:30 for 11th and 12th grades.

First practice dates have also been set for Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High fall sports.

The first practice day for high school athletes is Monday, August 1st. Junior High athletes will follow two week later, on Monday, August 15th.

ALTERCATION ALLEGEDLY LEADS TO SHOTS BEING FIRED IN NEELYVILLEButler County authorities say that shots were reportedly fired Monday during an altercation in Neelyville.

Investigator Wess Popp with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tells us more about the incident.

WESS POPP:

On Monday at approximately noon, we got a call to Neelyville about shots fired. Officers arrived where they make contact with Dariel Trice. Trice reported that Desean Bell had fired two shots at him. He said that they had met up in the parking lot of video Playhouse where a verbal altercation began. The verbal altercation escalated into a physical altercation where Bell had swung at Mr. Trice and Trice had swung back and hit him. Bell then left the scene assuming he went home. Trice then walked to the Neelyville Park where he again met up with Bell carrying a backpack. Mr. Bell pulled a handgun pointed it at Trice and fired two rounds and immediately leaving the scene. Officers arrived, identified Bell from Trice, and went to Bell’s Apartment. Investigators looked over the scene where they found a green duffel bag hanging from a tree as if thrown into a field. Opened up that bag where they retrieve the handgun. Bell was arrested for assault 1st and unlawful use of a weapon, and is currently housed at the Butler County jail with a $100,000 cash only bond.

Bell is also facing charges of assault of a law enforcement officer in the 3rd degree and 1st degree property damage.

 

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING ISSUED FOR PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI A heat advisory that had been in effect for parts of Southeast Missouri has been upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning.

The warning was issued this morning by the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky for parts of Butler, Carter, Ripley, and Wayne Counties. The warning is in effect until 7 pm on Saturday.

Weather officials say that temperatures in the mid and upper 90’s will combine with oppressive humidity to produce heat indices at around 110 degrees.

The heat may be somewhat lower today due to possible cloud cover, but officials say very oppressive heat is expected for Thursday through Saturday.

 

METHAMPHETAMINE FOUND DURING SEARCH OF NORTHEAST ARKANSAS HOME A man was taken into custody Monday following the search of his home by authorities in Northeast Arkansas.

According to Greene County Sheriff David Carter, the search was conducted by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Arkansas Probation and Parole at the home of Ryan Flanrey.

During the search, officers found methamphetamine, syringes, spoons, pipes, and digital scales.

Following the arrest, Flanrey was taken to the Greene County Jail.

 

AUTHORITIES ARREST WOMAN IN CONNECTION TO SKELETAL REMAINS An investigation is underway in connection to the discovery of skeletal remains at a home in Paragould.

According to authorities, Gloria Tinsely was taken into custody and is facing a charge of abuse of a corpse.

The remains were found Tuesday and belonged to an adult male who has not been identified.

 

TWO INJURED WHEN VEHICLE HITS TREE NEAR POPLAR BLUFF Two Poplar Bluff teenagers were injured Tuesday night in a single vehicle wreck in Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on County Road 448 near Poplar Bluff when a vehicle driven by 19 year old Ryan Hatton travelled off of the roadway and struck a tree.

A 15 year old passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured and taken by Air Evac to Elvis Presley Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

Hatton suffered minor injuries and was taken to Black River Medical Center.

 

19TH ANNUAL BUTLER COUNTY JOB FAIR SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 26TH Registration is open to area businesses for the 19th Annual Butler County Job Fair.

According to the Butler County Community Resource Council, the job fair will be held from 10 am to 3 pm on August 26th at the Bess Activity Center in Poplar Bluff.

Booth space is free to employers, with 50 spaces available on a first come, first serve basis. Advance registration is required, with businesses asked to return their registration by August 12th.

ONE IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO WEEKEND STABBING IN POPLAR BLUFFA man received non-life threatening injuries during a stabbing incident Saturday night.

Deputy Chief Donnie Trout with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that a suspect has been taken into custody.

DONNIE TROUT:

On Saturday evening at 11:30 officers responded to the 900 block of Maud Street in reference to a subject having been stabbed. While en route officers Zach Tubb was flagged down by a subject on a bicycle and said someone had attempted to rob him. Communications advised this was the suspect in the stabbing. The suspect was identified as 40 year old Timothy Wayne Williams and he made a spontaneous utterance that it was self-defense. The knife was located on the sidewalk next to his bicycle and he proceeded to tell that he had loaned money to the victim earlier in the day and the victim had been in contact with him stating if he would buy online pharmacy methamphetamine for him they would call the loan even. The victim was later transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Timothy Williams was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action and lodged in the Butler County Justice Center.

Information on the full extent of the victim’s injuries was not available.

 

IDENTITY RELEASED OF PERSON KILLED IN KENNETT SHOOTING Authorities have released the identity of a man killed over the weekend during a shooting in Kennett.

According to authorities, Shane McCormack was shot during the incident on Sunday. He was taken to an area hospital where he later passed away.

Police have arrested Kenneth Bowles in connection to the incident. Bowles and McCormack had allegedly been involved in an altercation prior to the shooting.

The Kennett Police Department says the investigation has been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control due to a conflict of interest with employees of the City of Kennett.

 

BRIDGE REPAIRS COULD PROMPT DELAYS ON MISSOURI ROUTE 142 IN BUTLER COUNTY Route 142 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane beginning today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge repairs.

The bridge set for repairs is located between County Road 275 and Route HH.

Weather permitting, work will be performed today through Thursday, from 7 am to 4 pm daily.

 

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE INVESTIGATING REPORTED ROBBERY Poplar Bluff police are investigating an alleged robbery that left one woman in a coma for several days.

KWOC News spoke with Captain Dave Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department about the investigation.

DAVE SUTTON:

On Sunday afternoon at around 3:30 pm, the Poplar Bluff Police Department received a robbery complaint at the front desk of the police department. Rickie Holloway reported that on July 3rd they found his mother in law, Etta Stockman, disoriented inside her residence in St. Francis, Arkansas, and they took her to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Stockman had broken ribs and bruises and slipped into a coma for several days. When she woke, Stockman said she sustained the injuries when two Hispanic males assaulted her and stole her purse in front of Goody's Clothing Store on the afternoon of Thursday, June 30th. No suspects have been identified and the investigation continues. Anyone with information related to this is asked to contact the Poplar Bluff Police Department at 573-785-5776.

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED WHEN HIS VEHICLE STRIKES A BRIDGE IN WAYNE COUNTY A Poplar Bluff man suffered serious injuries Monday after his vehicle struck a bridge in Wayne County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by 26 year old Brian Tumbas, ran off the side of Missouri Highway 49, struck a bridge end, and overturned.

Following the wreck, Tumbas was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

 

HEAT WAVE CONTINUES IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI Temperatures are reaching dangerous levels in Southeast Missouri and weather officials say there is more to come.

We spoke with Rick Shanklin with the National Weather Service about what we you can expect to see this week.

RICK SHANKLIN:

We are entering into the most prominent Heatwave so far this year across our region. Expected heat indices this week basically in this area to average 105 or greater. For that reason we have a heat advisory that’s in effect and we expect more heat advisories to be issued throughout the course of the week and it’s not out of the question that we could even have an excessive heat warning issued for our region as a result of this persistent Heat Wave across our region. Really not much change all week in the heat and humidity, perhaps a small chance of thunderstorms a couple days this week. Areas to the east of here might see a little bit of a reprieve from the heat on Wednesday but most of us I think are going to see virtually no relief whatsoever throughout the course of the entire week. During all this heat it is extremely important to heed the advice that is provided and that is to not over expose yourself to the heat especially during the heat of the day. Wear lightweight light color clothing, take plenty of breaks, drink plenty of water, plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. And especially when it comes to vehicles one of the concerns we really have is individuals being left in a vehicle. We always say look before you lock that car be sure you haven’t left a pet and certainly not a small child in the vehicle. We lose about 40 children each year in the United States from them being left in vehicles.
